The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in Medical Oncology at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (contract).

This position represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced veterinary oncologist to join and help lead a rapidly expanding oncology program. As the University of Minnesota grows both its Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology services, we seek a collaborative clinician, educator, and mentor who is passionate about advancing patient care, training future specialists, and shaping the future direction of veterinary oncology.

The successful candidate will contribute to the continued growth and advancement of the Medical Oncology Service, support resident training, and play an important role in the clinical, educational, and scholarly missions of the College.

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the academic mission of the College.

Clinical Service & Clinical Teaching (40-60%)

• Provide specialty medical oncology consultation, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Participate in multidisciplinary cancer care.
• Support continued growth and strategic development of the oncology service.
• Contribute to excellence in patient care and client communication.
• Supervise and mentor oncology residents, interns, and DVM students.

Didactic Teaching (10-20%)

• Contribute to the development of didactic coursework and integration into all four years of curriculum. It is expected that didactic teaching focuses on outcomes with an emphasis on active learning activities to enable our students to develop competence in clinical skills, communication, collaboration, clinical reasoning and problem solving. A student-centered philosophy of education is required.
• Contribute to continuing education and professional development programs.
• Participate in scholarly activities appropriate to rank and appointment track.
• Develop or contribute to collaborative clinical, translational, or educational research initiatives.
• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations within the College and University.

Research and Scholarly Activity (10-20%)

Service and Outreach (10%)

• Service/Outreach responsibilities may include personal development, outreach to external stakeholders and service to the CVM and other veterinary-related professional organizations. Participation in departmental and university service will be appropriate at each stage of your career progression, as is fostering a diverse, inclusive and communicative academic environment in the department and university.
• Expectations of the service component of your position include providing expert advice to referring veterinarians, attending departmental and collegiate faculty meetings, and serving on departmental, collegiate, and university committees.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.
• Board certification in Medical Oncology through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM-Oncology) or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA Oncology).
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Minnesota.
• Demonstrated experience managing a specialty medical oncology caseload.
• Experience supervising and mentoring oncology residents and house officers.
• Evidence of effective teaching, communication, and collaborative skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in academic veterinary medicine.
• Experience developing clinical programs or expanding specialty services.
• Record of scholarly activity consistent with career stage.
• Interest in collaborative clinical, translational, or educational research.

About the Department

The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department advances veterinary medicine through clinical education and mentoring, specialized care of companion animals, and generating new knowledge through clinical research.

Teaching

Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for a significant portion of the clinical training program for third- and fourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internship and residency programs. Faculty members also participate in the veterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciences graduate programs.

Research

Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basic research, as well as specialized programs such as the Animal Cancer Care and Research program, Minnesota Urolith Center, and Surgical Research Laboratory. Research efforts are supported by the Clinical Investigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials.

Service and Outreach

Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide collaborative clinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center using cutting-edge equipment and offers consultations and continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians in the community.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Assoc Prof: $135,000- $195,0000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Full Professor: $150,000 - $220,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
