Full time 36 hours/week | 6:45am - 7:15pm

Overview The Patient Care Tech assists patients with healthcare needs, activities of daily living and provides bedside care, including basic nursing procedures, all under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). In this role, the Patient Care Technician may also function as a phlebotomist by performing blood collection by venipuncture or dermal puncture, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Description

  • Obtains and documents vital signs & weight accurately and reports abnormal results to the nurse; documents appropriately on the electronic medical record.
  • Provides assistance for personal care to patients including bathing, dressing, dietary needs, and toileting. Ensures security of patient's personal items and reports discrepancies to supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Documents patient intake/output, sends urine specimens to labs as ordered, performs daily phlebotomy as ordered, collects and labels tubes properly using hospital protocol and performs bedside glucose monitoring as instructed by nurse.
  • Assists with admission, discharge, and transferring of patients. Updates hospital tracking system to reflect patient transfer.
  • Assists nurse and/or physician with implementing treatment interventions (i.e. sterile and non-sterile soaks and/or dressings).
  • Provides for patient safety through preventative measures (bed controls, nurse/patient communication system, and side rails).
  • Obtains supplies and equipment as needed for patients and restocks supplies when needed, ensuring that all supplies used are properly charged to the patients.

Completion of annual required training and learning modules including 'Safe Medication Handling for Staff Who Do Not Administer Medications'

Qualifications

Required education: High school diploma

Required experience:

Hands on patient care experience or 2nd semester RN student

CNA, EMT, or CMA required within 1 year of hire

Preferred experience: CNA, EMT, or CMA license
