Island Medical Group Bethpage has an immediate opening for a friendly, patient focused and detailed oriented AssociatePatient Care Coordinator to join our team. The AssociatePatient Care Coordinator is responsible for the completion of set processes and protocols. Works cooperatively with all members of the care team to support the vision and mission of the organization, deliver excellent customer service and adhere to Lean processes. Supports the teams in meeting financial, clinical and service goals.

Schedule: This position is scheduled for 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with regular working hours between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

In addition, employees are required to work one late evening shift per week, typically on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. until closing (approximately 7:00 p.m.).

The specific schedule will be determined by the supervisor at the time of hire.

Location: 4045 Hempstead Turnpike, Third Floor, Bethpage, NY 11714

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
  • Assists patients with signing in and completing registration
  • Follow the payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
  • Answers incoming phone calls in a courteous and prompt manner; directs calls and takes messages
  • Ability to maintain a work queue list- complete any pending actions i.e. referrals, scheduling appointments
  • Monitoring workflow
  • Enters and scans patient's demographic and insurance information into Epic
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefit information; informs patients of insurance benefits
  • Collects co-payments and patient balances
  • Answers incoming phone calls in a courteous and prompt manner; directs calls and takes messages
  • Assists physician and clinical staff by coordinating follow up care for patients; schedules referral appointments for patients and obtains authorization for diagnostic testing
  • Handle resolution/inquiries from members and/or clinical team
  •  Assist with onboarding new employees
  • Responsible in managing daily schedule
  • Responsible for EPIC superuser status
  • Ability to support all staff and leadership in their roles
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED 
  • 1+ years of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • 6+ months of customer service or healthcare experience
  • Ability to travel 10% to cover other offices if needed
  • Access to reliable transportation and valid US driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Epic experience
  • 1+ years of experience working in medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Soft Skills: 

  • Ability to work independently and as a team, and maintain good judgment and accountability 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines 
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others

 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $29.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
