The Position

Artheon is seeking a motivated Associate Planner to join our Planning Department. As a multidisciplinary firm, Artheon works with public and private sector clients throughout New Jersey, providing a wide range of planning services including comprehensive master planning, redevelopment planning, affordable housing planning, and technical professional planning support to municipal Planning and Zoning Boards.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and interested in learning all aspects of municipal and land use planning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of master plans, redevelopment studies and plans, affordable housing plans, and other planning reports.
  • Conduct research on zoning ordinances, land development regulations, demographic data, and planning best practices.
  • Prepare maps, reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for planning projects.
  • Assist with development applications and help ensure projects comply with municipal and state regulations.
  • Attend meetings with clients, municipal staff, Planning Boards, and Zoning Boards, and assist with meeting preparation and follow-up.
  • Support public outreach efforts, including community meetings, workshops, and public hearings.
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, and other project team members to support project delivery.
  • Maintain project files and assist with day-to-day project coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field. Master''s degree is a plus.
  • 1-3 years of planning experience through full-time employment, internships, or co-op experience.
  • Working knowledge of land use planning principles and zoning regulations.
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, and planning research tools is preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a collaborative consulting environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL) is a plus.
  • Progress toward AICP certification and New Jersey Professional Planner (PP) licensure or an interest in pursuing professional licensure is encouraged but not required.

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
