Summary: Provides instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum (planning, review and implementation), professional development, and evaluation. Responsible for building administration and the safety and welfare of both students and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide educational leadership for students, staff and parents.
  • Improve student achievement
  • Directly supervise and manage all building staff personnel.
  • Facilitate student placement process
  • Promote the belief of educability of all students
  • Resolve staff conflicts and provide support to teachers.
  • Take part in teacher recruitment, selection, placement and training
  • Guide employees' work so that tasks are aligned towards one common vision.
  • Evaluate staff according to district procedures. This includes appraising performance and rewarding or disciplining employees who are both on the formative or summative cycle.
  • Observe, supervise, and counsel with all certified personnel to aid in their professional growth.
  • Lead the staff in the identification of long and short-range curriculum needs and bring these needs to the attention of the Administration.
  • Keep informed of the latest curriculum innovations by professional study and attendance at intra-district meetings, conferences and conventions.
  • Actively participate in the district-wide planning of curriculum programs and materials.
  • Conduct classroom walkthroughs to ensure fidelity of curriculum implementation within the assigned building.
  • Secure and organize resources, both human and material, needed to make the curriculum effective.
  • Develop an on-going professional development program within the building through faculty meetings, individual conferences or other techniques.
  • Evaluate assessment data as sources in determining strengths and weaknesses in the instructional program.
  • Adoption of a systematic approach to ensure school improvement plan alignment, implementation and staff engagement.
  • Participate in the planning and conducting of research studies with building staff, research personnel and the Superintendent.
  • Provide for procedures which will insure supervision and control of pupils in the school and on the playground.
  • Work with faculty and parents in a cooperative and continuous effort to adapt the program to the needs of the pupils and the community served by that school.
  • Participate in the development of district-wide and site budgets, allocations, and assist in adjustments.
  • Create a climate and culture in the school, which fosters learning, good pupil-teacher relationships, interesting school activities for students, and an open channel of communication with teachers and parents.
  • Maintain relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside agencies.
  • Communicate and implement policy and procedure changes from the Board, or from State and Federal legislation, at the building level.
  • Inspect school site with regards to health and safety and assume responsibility for the proper use of equipment, property, and buildings under this jurisdiction and cooperate with the director of business services and/or supervisor of buildings and grounds in these matters.
  • Plan elementary summer school curriculum for enrichment and academic support classes. Hire summer school staff and supervise staff and students during the duration of summer school.

  • Must demonstrate strong convictions and support for the District's and School's mission, vision and goals.

  • Ability to work positively and effectively with District personnel.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.

Education/Experience and Licensure:

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Educational Administration
  • Current Department of Instruction Principal license
  • Minimum of five successful years of teaching experience
  • Two (2) years of leadership experience
  • Special Education experience highly preferred
  • Elementary experience preferred
