Overview:
The CBS News Capitol Hill unit is seeking an associate producer with well-developed editorial, reporting, and logistical skills to cover Capitol Hill. The associate producer will be expected to cultivate sources, cover events across the hill, work with correspondents and producers on the house and senate side and in the field, travel on short notice and report and write for CBSNews.com. Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of TV journalism experience, and the ability to thrive in a deadline-driven news environment. The associate producer will have well-developed writing, editing and research skills and the ability to work with camera crews. The selected candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills, initiative, willingness to work in a collaborative manner, a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for news and storytelling. Experience editing taped packages is a plus. The candidate must be available to work weekends when needed and participate in a Capitol Hill weekend rotation to help cover the editorial needs of weekend shows.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Cultivate sources and cover events across both houses of congress
Organize crews, log events and work in a team-oriented environment
Edit taped packages, conduct research and book interviews
Provide creative input, pitch, and develop and execute original stories
Arrange interviews and location shots and produce content under strict deadlines
Quickly gather and disseminate critical information for air, verifying its accuracy
Pursue newsmakers and conduct interviews
Write articles for CBSNews.com
Communicate information to the bureau and assignment desk
Coordinate transmission windows for live shots and feeds
Shoot and edit breaking news, day of air, features
Appropriately represent CBS News in public settings including social media
Basic Requirements:
2+ years working at a news organization with proven experience in the field
Strict adherence to the highest journalistic standards
Solid reporting and writing skills
Ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities
Ability to work long hours as news dictates which could include working on regular days off, weekends and overnight, with short notice
Ability to travel with short notice both domestically and internationally
Ability to take on assignments that vary from extreme weather to environments including areas of social unrest, protests etc.
Proficiency at shooting with a prosumer-style camera, capturing clean audio using hardwired and wireless microphones, and setting up basic lighting
Valid drivers license required
Additional Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to listen and receive feedback
Broadcast and Digital experience preferred
College Degree in broadcast journalism, history, or political science or related field preferred, but not required

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $65,000.00 - 77,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
