This leadership role has accountability and responsibility for the Undergraduate nursing program(s). The program associate dean collaborates with the Dean and the Campus Associate Deans to unify and standardize program operations across the three campuses and create a strategic plan for their programs. The program associate dean is accountable for academic programming to include student experience, curriculum integrity, accreditation readiness, enrollment and, performance improvement.
Has primary responsibility for the Undergraduate Program for the College of Nursing (CON) with the following accountabilities:
Understands faculty workload policy and process and uses data to determine programmatic faculty needs:
Makes recommendation to Dean and campus ADs for additional faculty members in either number of lines or necessary expertise for programs
Correlates program(s) enrollment with faculty vacancies and adjunct utilization across their program(s).
Staff oversight and search process for direct reports based on program(s) needs:
Operations administration (assistant/secretary)
Reviews current staff roles, looking for opportunities to upskill current staff leading to improved performance, better compensation and retention of staff
Considers how staff can better meet the programmatic needs of faculty, students and leadership
Maintains curriculum integrity across the CON to include:
SLO's, program outcomes, syllabi integrity
Compliance with CCNE Essentials
Compliance with university requirements for syllabi and standardization across CON courses
Active leadership in curriculum review, updates and innovations
Maintains accreditation readiness for their program in partnership with program faculty, campus deans and shared governance committees
Is knowledgeable of accreditation standards and has a strong history in participating in self-studies and site visits
Responsible for contributing to CCNE and SACS self-study documents for accreditation
To prepare program faculty for participation during site visits
Accountable for program data collection to include:
Faculty workload, enrollment, applications, enrollment, drops, incompletes, course failures/failures out of program, graduates, employability, licensure and certification rates retention
Will partner with Institutional Research and Data Management
Creates program dashboards that are accessible to faculty, staff and leadership
Shares relevant data and trends as advisor with CADs, program/track directors and/or Asst. Deans as well as with UAAC or GAAC in ex officio role
Uses available program data to formulate opportunities for performance improvement.
Identifies programmatic performance improvement exemplars that will be used in upcoming accreditation activities
Acts as program advisor to CPIC committee in an ex officio role
Markets and communicates with the public and within the university re: their programs, highlighting faculty, staff and student achievements
Oversees admission processes:
Sets enrollment targets, improves admission processes, participates in student orientations
Builds process for rolling admissions to increase opportunities to recruit high performing applicants
Works with recruiters and advisors to resolve barriers for applicants
Interacts with professional peers outside of TWU, promoting the CON's reputation
Attends relevant conferences for their program, always seeking opportunities to present podiums and posters on the work being done in the CON
Seeks service opportunities on boards (community, state, national, international)
Partners with ADR and CADs to mentor program faculty in research and support dissemination
Actively participates in the mentoring of new and experienced faculty:
Understands the leadership hierarchy within the CON and mentors faculty as they aspire to leadership roles
Partners with the faculty lead for the Academy of Nursing Excellence within the CON:
Provides program(s) overview and orientation for new faculty
Identifies developmental activities within the university and college that will enhance faculty performance and success
Acts as an advisor in the promotion and tenure process
Is perceived by faculty and students as the leader for their program(s):
Creates, supports meetings of program(s) faculty for the purposes of discussion, priority setting, performance improvement and strategic planning for program(s).
Gives program(s) updates to CON faculty during scheduled faculty meetings
Attends graduations
