WestLand is seeking a full-time Associate Project Manager/Architectural Historian to join our West Cultural Resources team. The Associate Project Manager / Architectural Historian supports planning and execution of cultural resources projects focused on architectural history/historic preservation which would include documenting historical properties, conducting in-person and online historic research, developing historic contexts, property histories, and evaluating historic resources. This is a junior-to-mid-level role focused on project coordination, technical work, report preparation, budget tracking, client communication, and supporting senior staff. The position requires field experience, solid technical skills, and the ability to manage components of multiple projects under senior oversight.

What will I be doing?

  • Communicate project goals, scope, and status to clients, project teams, and supervisors.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and budgets; monitor progress and report variances.
  • Coordinate and assign day-to-day tasks for technicians and crew members; work under direction of senior staff.
  • Support resource coordination with Project Managers and Department Directors.
  • Assist in preparation of proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Help ensure project compliance with permits, regulations, and agency standards.
  • Lead or assist field efforts for surveys and architectural documentation as assigned.
  • Collect and document field data and mapping to meet project standards.
  • Draft technical report sections and support the preparation of final reports with review from senior staff.
  • Support Principal Investigator tasks; act as on-site lead when appropriate and qualified.
  • Maintain professional communication with clients, agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to quality control processes for deliverables.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or related field. Masters in historic preservation, heritage conservation, architectural history, or public history, preferred.
  • 2–5 years of architectural history field experience; some supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards; meeting SOI standards or working toward them is a plus. Ability to serve as Principal Investigator may be required for certain projects and dependent on qualifications and local agency requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fieldwork-driven environment.
  • Comfortable supervising small crews and coordinating logistics under senior oversight.

The hourly rate for this position is $40 - $46 per hour.
