Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Associate Scientific Services Support professional to provide essential laboratory support as part of a dynamic Client lab services team.
This role will support the centralized
glassware washing and processing operation, including the pickup, cleaning, inspection, sterilization, and delivery of laboratory glassware and reusable laboratory items. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory & Customer Support- Pick up and deliver laboratory glassware, biologically contaminated reusable glassware, and plasticware.
- Follow established procedures for the safe handling and transportation of glassware and contaminated materials.
- Perform specialized cleaning activities, including autoclaving and ultrasonic cleaning.
- Operate autoclaves for decontamination and sanitization.
- Operate glassware washers, dry-heat sterilizers, ultrasonic baths, and incubators.
- Prepare glassware, caps, and related laboratory items for cleaning and sanitization.
- Inspect glassware for cleanliness, damage, and structural defects before returning items to customers.
- Maintain glassware inventory and notify the team lead of shortages or deficiencies.
- Perform routine inspections and checks of glass-washing and autoclave equipment.
- Maintain temperature records, equipment forms, and other required documentation.
- Perform monthly descaling and biological indicator challenges.
- Maintain clean and organized glassware processing areas.
- Follow all applicable procedures and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and proactively report safety concerns.
- Complete all required training within established timelines.
- Work collaboratively with other teams to provide seamless laboratory support services.
- Cross-train and provide backup support to other laboratory service areas as needed.
Basic Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED required.
- College graduates and students are welcome to apply, provided they can commit to the required work schedule.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Willingness and ability to learn laboratory procedures and equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate proper use of relevant laboratory equipment following training.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous glassware washing/processing experience preferred.
- Research or laboratory experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is a plus.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory or controlled environment is beneficial.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, including:
- Sit or stand for approximately 2–3 hours in laboratory areas.
- Walk for approximately 2–3 hours throughout the facility and between multiple campus buildings.
- Reach above and below shoulder level.
- Bend at the knees and waist.
- Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Perform office activities, including keyboarding and use of hands/fingers/arms, for up to 4 hours.
- Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work safely around biohazards, including bloodborne pathogens.
Working Environment- Work in laboratory and controlled environments requiring PPE.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high demands for timely completion of tasks.
- May be required to handle hazardous waste in accordance with company procedures and applicable state, federal, and local regulations.
- Responsibilities may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, and labeling hazardous waste.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, security, and environmental compliance.
- Immediately report and address potential safety hazards.
- Understand and follow proper ergonomic practices when working with people, equipment, and the laboratory environment.
