Job Description:
  • Associate Scientist with strong molecular biology laboratory experience, specifically someone who has hands-on experience performing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation. This is the single most important technical qualification.
  • The ideal candidate is someone who is consistent, reliable, detail-oriented, and produces high-quality bench work with minimal mistakes. Because this is a busy and crowded laboratory environment, the candidate must also communicate effectively with teammates and work collaboratively.
  • Candidates with experience supporting RNA sequencing workflows, particularly RNA-seq library preparation, are highly preferred. Experience with single-cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics is also valuable.
  • Histology experience is preferred but is considered more flexible than NGS experience. The candidate should at minimum have some exposure to working with tissue sections, but they do not need an extensive pathology background.
  • Fresh master’s graduates are acceptable. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree should have approximately two years of relevant bench or industry experience. Fresh PhDs may also be considered, but candidates with significant post-PhD industry experience will likely be viewed as overqualified.
  • To perform experiments, organize data and analyze results under minimal supervision. With minimal supervision, plans, conduct or monitor experiments, records and organizes data, analyses results, generates robust and reliable data and/or ensures that contracted studies are conducted in compliance with the respective protocol and applicable guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Perform sample and library preparation/QC for NGS sequencing.
  • Perform basic histology (sectioning, staining, imaging) on tissue samples.
  • Perform basic cell culture.
  • Monitors or follows established experimental design and protocols and performs routine tasks and studies to obtain reproducible and reliable results with limited supervision
  • Plans, monitors or conducts, analyzes and records experiments, and provides interpretation of data
  • Effectively transfers experimental methods from literature to the lab and makes modifications as necessary
  • Develop and implements new protocols with moderate review
  • Engages coworkers in scientific discussions
  • Communicates data and interpretation to work group
  • Skilled at developing systems to ensure quality data
  • Effectively trouble-shoots equipment and experimental difficulties
  • Contributes to internal/external reports, papers, presentations, regulatory documents, invention disclosure submissions and/or patents
  • Participates in department-wide support efforts such as safety, recruiting and committees
  • May train staff and/or supervise others
  • Coordinates and organizes resources needed to complete the task
  • Understands when to seek input and when to make independent judgments;

Skills:
  • Experience with NGS library prep and sequencing.
  • Experience with basic histological techniques and RNA in-situ hybridization.
  • Experience with spatial and single-cell transcriptomics.
  • degree in Biology, Biochemistry
  • Experience in a Biopharmaceutical working environment
