Job Summary

The hiring manager is looking for an Associate Scientist with strong molecular biology laboratory experience, specifically someone with hands-on experience performing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation. This is the single most important technical qualification. The ideal candidate is consistent, reliable, detail-oriented, and produces high-quality bench work with minimal mistakes. Because this is a busy and crowded laboratory environment, the candidate must also communicate effectively with teammates and collaborate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform sample and library preparation/QC for NGS sequencing.
  • Perform basic histology (sectioning, staining, imaging) on tissue samples.
  • Perform basic cell culture.
  • Monitors or follows established experimental design and protocols and performs routine tasks and studies to obtain reproducible and reliable results with limited supervision.
  • Plans, monitors, or conducts, analyzes, and records experiments, and provides interpretation of data.
  • Effectively transfers experimental methods from literature to the lab and makes modifications as necessary.
  • Develops and implements new protocols with moderate review.
  • Engages coworkers in scientific discussions.
  • Communicates data and interpretation to work group.
  • Skilled at developing systems to ensure quality data.
  • Effectively troubleshoots equipment and experimental difficulties.
  • Contributes to internal/external reports, papers, presentations, regulatory documents, invention disclosure submissions and/or patents.
  • Participates in department-wide support efforts such as safety, recruiting and committees.
  • May train staff and/or supervise others.
  • Coordinates and organizes resources needed to complete the task.
  • Understands when to seek input and when to make independent judgments.

Required Skills

  • Experience with NGS library prep and sequencing (Illumina sequencing library preparation, RNA sequencing/RNA-seq, RNA library preparation).
  • Molecular biology laboratory experience.
  • Bench laboratory experience.
  • Biology or Biochemistry background.
  • Produces consistent laboratory results; can be trusted with laboratory work; shows attention to detail.
  • Does not mix up samples; is organized; keeps a clean workspace; produces accurate laboratory work.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with spatial and single-cell transcriptomics (single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics).
  • Experience with basic histological techniques and RNA in-situ hybridization.
  • Experience handling tissue sections (does not require an extensive pathology laboratory background; minimal experience with tissue sections is sufficient).
  • Experience in a biopharmaceutical working environment.
  • Candidates with experience supporting RNA sequencing workflows, particularly RNA-seq library preparation, are highly preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field plus approximately 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • OR: Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Manager is also open to fresh Master's graduates and fresh PhD graduates.
  • Less preferred: Bachelor's candidates relying primarily on internship experience.
  • Note: Fresh PhDs may be considered, but candidates with significant post-PhD industry experience may be viewed as overqualified.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience OR Master's degree (with no additional experience required) OR Associate's degree and 4 years of experience OR High school diploma/GED and 6 years of experience.
  • To perform experiments, organize data, and analyze results under minimal supervision; with minimal supervision, plans, conducts, or monitors experiments, records and organizes data, analyses results, generates robust and reliable data and/or ensures that contracted studies are conducted in compliance with the respective protocol and applicable guidelines and regulations.

Benefits

  • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans
  • 401k Retirement Fund

Important Notes

  • Interview process: Phone interview followed by in-person on-site interview.
