Associate Veterinarian
The Dickerson Park Zoo is seeking an Associate Veterinarian. The Associate Veterinarian is a key position and is responsible for assisting in overseeing the health care of the Zoo''s animal collection. The Associate Veterinarian ensures a good preventive health care program and treatment for sick and injured animals, for the animal collection of more than 400 individual animals, representing about 165 different domestic, native and exotic species. Many sick, injured and orphaned animals, especially birds of prey, are also treated each year as part of the rehabilitation program for native wildlife.
The Zoo''s animal collection is composed of many species managed through the Species Survival Plan of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, such as Asian elephant, cheetah, maned wolf, Mexican grey wolf, Malayan tiger and many more. The Zoo participates in AZA SAFE programs for threatened species such as Andean Highland Flamingo, African Lion, Asian Elephant, Chinchilla and more while supporting over thirty conservation programs worldwide to save species and wildlife habitat.
The Veterinarian oversees and mentors many students doing pre-veterinary internships and veterinary school externships and preceptorships at the Zoo each semester
Experience Required
Experience, Education, and Training Graduation from an accredited school of veterinary medicine. Licensing/Certification Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have a license to practice veterinary medicine; Must be licensed to practice in the state of Missouri within six months of employment; Must possess a Federal Drug Administration-Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate for all schedules within the first six months of employment; And the ability to secure accreditation by the United States Department of Agriculture is required.
