Job Summary:
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) seeks an accomplished academic physician educator to serve as Associate Vice Chair for Education (AVC-E). This faculty leader will provide strategic leadership across the department's education mission, including undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education, fellowship education, educational tools such as simulation and artificial intelligence (AI), continuing professional development, and faculty development of educators.
The AVC-E will help set the Department''s education strategy and will be accountable for translating that strategy into execution. The AVC-E will prioritize sustainable programs, develop future education leaders, drive innovation, and use data to measure progress and guide investment across the education mission, all aligned with the CU SOM educational goals.
Near-term Departmental priorities for the AVC-E include elevating the metrics of success for our UME program and ensuring successful transitions/filling of Residency leadership roles.
Additional attributes of a successful candidate are being a collaborative, visible leader with situational awareness who builds effective partnerships across the Department, the School of Medicine, affiliated clinical sites, and relevant regional and national organizations.
The AVC-E will directly report to the Vice Chair of Academic Affairs. The AVC-E will partner with, and be mentored by, the Department Chair and other DEM executive leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute to DEM Education strategy to become a best-in-class department and sustain the gains; take a leading role with department leaders to form tactics and accountability metrics; and envision the future of education with key partners both in and outside of CU:
UME program Top Quartile in SOM on Education Metrics:
Develop and Implement, with input and support of key Departmental leaders, a Transition Plan for Residency Program Leadership:
Represent the educational mission as a Subject Matter Expert to the Department's leadership team, including the Chair and Vice Chairs. Mentor clinical educators, formally in Affinity Groups and informally as a resource to fellowship programs and to faculty who are continuing their education in bedside teaching, educational scholarship, and technological innovation.
Translate educational strategy into execution by establishing clear priorities, accountable leaders, timelines, resource requirements, and measurable outcomes. Drive initiatives from concept through implementation and assess whether they achieve the intended impact.
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The clinical buydown for this position has been established as .2 cFTE.
