The incumbent is responsible for vision, leadership, strategic planning, administrative oversight, and coordination of institution-wide initiatives to increase student success and completion. The incumbent provides strategic direction and oversight for Student Affairs and other student supports and resources. As such, the incumbent collaborates with other administrators within Academic Affairs and across the College to intentionally integrate and coordinate academic and student supports to increase student enrollment, retention, and success.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent in this senior executive staff position reports to the vice president for academic affairs and is a member of the president's administrative team. Reporting directly to the incumbent on collegewide initiatives through a matrix reporting structure are the campus deans of student affairs, collegewide directors and coordinators for student supports, and administrative support personnel within the office of Student Affairs. Typical contacts include president's council; campus administration and other collegewide administration; federal, State, and local government officials; business, industry and community leaders, and leaders of other educational institutions; regional and national accrediting bodies; national higher education organizations and students.
Principal Accountabilities
An incumbent may perform any combination of the below listed accountabilities:
Supports the vice president for academic affairs in providing strategic direction, vision and collegewide oversight for student affairs, including academic advising, new student orientation, first year experience, admissions, recruitment, career services, financial aid, student life, military support, disabilities support, mental health resources, athletics, wellness, student conduct, and other student supports.
Provides institution-wide leadership, support, supervisory responsibility for staff as well as matrix supervision for deans of student affairs, and in collaboration with the associate vice president for academic affairs and the associate vice president for workforce development and community education, ensures effective cross-division communication with the deans of instruction and directors of workforce development to ensure effective cross-division communication.
Provides vision and leadership for increasing institutional effectiveness related to student success.
Provides vision and leadership for mapping and monitoring the enrollment and graduation pipeline to identify points of weakness and strength, and plan targeted improvement actions that improve the quality of the student experience at the College to increase student retention and completion.
Under the direction of the vice president for academic affairs and in collaboration with the associate vice president for academic affairs, assists in implementing new programs and leads the admissions, advisement, and registration processes that come with establishing new programs.
Develops relationships with the leadership of national organizations and other educational experts to stay abreast of promising practices and opportunities for Student Affairs.
Effectively and professionally communicates with business, industry and professional organization leaders, the media, elected and government officials, and other stakeholders in the development of student support programs, and other collaborations on behalf of the College.
Provides vision and leadership for institutional effectiveness regarding the assessment, analysis and improvement actions related to Mission Goals focusing on the college environment, student supports, and student success.
Provides vision and leadership for the use of data analytics to increase student success through identification of successful student support interventions, barriers to student success, and improvement strategies.
Under the direction of the vice president for academic affairs, provides leadership for the development and implementation of institutional policies, procedures, and processes related to Student Affairs.
Collaborates with the vice president for information and instructional technology to ensure effective communication, coordination, and planning for electronic student and administrative systems and databases to meet Student Affairs' operational needs and ensure correct functioning and accuracy of student records, published program and course requirements, the master schedule, Student Educational Plans, Curriculum Guidelines, College Catalog, Student Affairs Handbook, as well as the interface of these systems with the learning management system.
Assists the vice president for academic affairs in implementing and completing College projects in response to College needs and external events and emerging trends affecting the College.
Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a relevant field and three (3) years of senior level management experience in academic affairs; or Master's degree in a relevant field and five (5) years of senior level management experience in academic affairs. Senior level experience must include:
