Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Biomedical Sciences, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five-state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south-central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:

Associated faculty in the School of Physical Therapy are members of the faculty, with responsibilities that are focused on instruction. Associated faculty may be hired per diem or part-time faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications. The faculty members will be primarily responsible for teaching in the DPT curriculum in their area of clinical expertise. Other activities may include planning, coordinating, grading and managing aspects of DPT courses and curriculum.

Essential Job Functions:

PNWU-DPT expects teaching faculty at all times to observe those policies and practices which are considered standard professional responsibilities. These include, but are not confined to:

Scholarship of Teaching

Developing course materials in specialized area of expertise including writing course syllabi and developing appropriate instructional methods

Teaching DPT courses assigned in content area of expertise and meeting program standards for student and peer evaluations

Developing and administering student assessments including exams, quizzes, and assignments, as appropriate

Enhancing expertise in teaching content areas through continuing education, contemporary physical therapy practice, and using current literature in teaching content

Participating in ongoing curriculum and program assessment

Meeting all classes as scheduled; reporting final grades at the designated time; having an appropriate number of office hours

Maintaining licensure and certification as appropriate

Service

Participating faculty member in the School of Physical Therapy through attendance of program events, student advising, and volunteering for interview panels and student Capstone projects if appropriate

University-wide Essential Functions

Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards

Conducts self appropriately and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of PNWU

Other duties as assigned (perform and report on any other reassigned duties for the program

Requirements

Education:

Required:

Earned doctoral degree or other terminal professional degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE)

Licensed or eligible for PT licensure in Washington State and a minimum of 3 years of practice if teaching clinical DPT courses

A terminal doctoral degree (post-professional doctorate, or DPT) with evidence of other professional qualifications (eg ABPTS or other specialty certification, or additional degree) required to be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor

Preferred: Academic doctorate degree (PhD, EdD, DSc)

Experience:

Preferred:

Evidence of successful academic and/or clinical teaching or clinical experience in areas of curricular need

Record of service to the profession and/or community

Prior teaching experience in an academic setting preferred (required to be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor)

Evidence of an ongoing or developing record of a scholarly agenda

Prior experience in working with rural and underserved populations

Prior experience in interprofessional education and simulation
