Job Description

Title: At-Risk Coordinator

Reports to: Building Principal

Job Objective: To assist students who have been identified as needing additional services and support for academic, emotional, and/or social needs.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid Ohio Department of Education teaching licensure for grades 7-12. Five (5) years prior work experience within and/or management of an at-risk program preferred, prior work experience with the methodology of instruction of at-risk students, prior work experience with drug/alcohol counseling and awareness programs, ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and district personnel.

Essential Functions:

Coordinates student referral process with appropriate school administrator. Determines and develops individualized plan of action.

• Reviews and disaggregates student academic data.
• Reviews and disaggregates student social/emotional data, disciplinary records.
• Collaborates with administrators, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, resource officer, and other applicable agencies to obtain qualitative student data.
• Communicates with parents/guardians to establish expectations, goals, and outcomes of programming.
• Participates in IEP, 504, Student Support Team, Wrap Around, and/or other meetings as necessary to support the academic success of the student.
• Coordinates intervention programming with school counselors and administration for at-risk students.
• Coordinate referrals of students to and from at-risk services.
• Advocates for students. Observes student demeanor. Investigates/reports atypical behaviors.
• Liaises with school based mental health and substance abuse staff.
• Follows through with plan of action until completion.
• Coordinates with outside agencies to facilitate positive interventions for at-risk youth.
• Collects and analyzes data and makes recommendations to secondary principals to improve the program.
• Assists staff to understand strategies and program changes needed to support the at-risk population.

Coordinates academic management, teaches skills to improve executive functioning, determines a plan for student success, improves communication between students and adults.

• Determines or interprets student academic deficiencies and selects instructional materials and teaching techniques to meet individual or group needs.
• Maintains record of student strengths, weaknesses, areas of growth, interventions, and prepares progress reports.
• Works with teachers to determine educational needs and prescribes academic plans.
• Provides a testing/retesting environment for identified students.
• Provides support for organization and regulation of executive functioning skills.
• Recommends changes in student classroom assignments to meet individual educational deficiencies.

Facilitates student attendance processes and monitors the Board's attendance policies.

• Assists principals with truancy mediations and preparation.
• Assists principals with attendance issues and concerns.
• Meets with students who are on an Attendance Intervention Plan

Supports students social emotional needs, mental health welfare, assists with substance abuse prevention, and serves as security liaison.

• Seeks to develop socially acceptable attitudes in students.
• Liaises with school based mental health and substance abuse staff.
• Builds genuine rapport with students, staff, and other stakeholders.
• Maintains knowledge of assessment methods, techniques and tools for students experiencing emotional challenges.
• Serves on building threat assessment management team.
• Meets regularly with SRO to discuss security concerns related to student behavior.
• Makes security recommendations based on knowledge of students.

• Manages student behavior using positive behavioral support techniques.

Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
