The primary role of the athletic/activities director is to lead the athletic programs at the high school. They are also charged with such responsibilities for the athletic program as determining student eligibility, maintaining uniforms and equipment, game management, scheduling officials, scheduling events, and transportation.

POSITION:

The athletic/activities director is a member of both the district and building administrative teams and reports to both the district administrator and the high school principal. The primary role of the athletic director is to lead the district athletic program and specifically the high school athletic program. The director is charged with such responsibilities as determining student eligibility, hiring and evaluating head coaches, developing game and practice schedules with coaches, maintaining uniforms and equipment, game management, and scheduling transportation.

SUPERVISES:

All head coaches and assists head coaches in evaluating assistants; Assistant athletic director; and Office personnel, as assigned.

CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

Hold a valid Wisconsin Principal license 5051 or show eligibility to obtain certification. Previous teaching/coaching as well as school or athletic administration experience preferred. Working knowledge of WIAA Conference rules and regulations. Be organized, display strong technology skills, have excellent communication skills, written and verbal; and, demonstrated leadership and team member experience.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

In partnership with the High School Principal, develop a vision and execute a plan to enhance our Athletic Strategic Direction.

Responsible for the direct oversight and supervision of the high school athletic programs. This includes administrative tasks of managing the budget, scheduling, and resource allocation of each program. In addition, the Athletic Director will be directly responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of coaches, supporting the physical and academic development of the student-athletes, and setting a direction and oversight for each athletic program at the high school. Current programs include:

High School: Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Hockey, Lacrosse, Ski/Snowboard Racing, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track, Tennis, Volleyball, and Wrestling.

Ensure district adherence to all WIAA policies and procedures including player code of conduct and athlete eligibility.

Prepare and manage an annual athletic budget. Ensure compliance with all district cash handling procedures.

Provide support and continuity with the assistant athletic director at the middle school who oversees the 6-8 athletic programs.

Establish norms and cultures rooted in our school values to develop the game day experience for all home events. This includes promoting a fun and respectful student section experience, creating a welcoming environment for guests, and overseeing all logistical operations related to ticket sales, supervision, and staffing of home events.

Represent the interests and values of the high school and establish partnerships to promote the athletic programming and vision of SHS. This includes establishing sponsorship opportunities, representing the district at WIAA and conference meetings, building relationships among alumni and community partners, and supporting the vision and goals of the PBO.

Plan and execute community-wide events including the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction.

Ensure SHS and athletic branding guidelines are followed in all promotional materials, uniform selection, and spirit wear sales. Both by the athletic department and each sport.

Provide primary supervision and development of the Athletic Department Administrative Assistant.

Serve as the athletic leader of middle and high school; administer student eligibility rules, practices, and procedures; be responsible for distributing, cleaning, and inventorying all athletic team equipment.

Perform all other tasks assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is contracted for 208 days per year with salary, fringe benefits, and other conditions of employment established by the district administrator and approved by the board. Performance of this position shall be evaluated annually by the district administrator and the high school principal using the administrative evaluation process established in board policy.
