PART I: SUMMARY OF POSITION
This job assignment is accountable for assisting the Athletic Director in directing and managing the overall program of extracurricular athletics for the District. This assignment provides leadership in the areas of instruction designed to develop appropriate skills, coaching techniques, and other related activities to the coaching staff. This assignment also works with coaches to provide each student with an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all state, District, and local requirements.
GUIDELINES FOR USE
One (1) Athletic Coordinator shall be appointed for each athletic program season (i.e. fall, winter and spring)
PART II: MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Current teacher or substitute certification in the State of Illinois OR complete the American Sports Education Program (ASEP) coaching certification set forth by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA)
B. CREDENTIALS:
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training/Hepatitis B Shots Series Training
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
- Valid Illinois Driver's License
- First Aid/CPR Certification preferred
C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of prevention, care, and treatment of minor athletic injuries.
- Knowledge of coaching techniques, human behavior, and athlete development.
- Knowledge of the specific sport, including rules, strategies, and safety practices.
- Knowledge of district athletic program goals and the Code of Ethics for Coaches.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and Board of Education policies related to student conduct and discipline.
- Strong coaching and instructional skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
- Active listening skills that support positive athlete relationships.
- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Leadership skills that promote teamwork, accountability, and sportsmanship.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with students.

PART III: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Assist the Director in planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising all district athletic programs.
- Assist in developing, administering, and monitoring the athletic budget, including preparing cost estimates and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Initiate, review, and process purchase orders and bids in accordance with district policies and budgetary guidelines.
- Establish, monitor, and verify student academic and physical eligibility for athletic participation in accordance with district and IHSA requirements.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, Illinois State Board of Education regulations, IHSA rules, and Board of Education policies governing athletics.
- Supervise and evaluate coaches and assigned athletic support staff to promote program effectiveness and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate athletic events by scheduling officials, preparing facilities, and overseeing operational logistics.
- Coordinate the use of athletic facilities by school and approved non-school organizations.
- Oversee the inventory, maintenance, repair, replacement, and storage of athletic equipment and supplies.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, inventories, and other required athletic documentation using manual and computerized systems.
- Implement and enforce district student behavior expectations, athletic codes of conduct, and applicable disciplinary procedures.
- Promote sportsmanship, character development, leadership, and positive student experiences through athletics.
- Evaluate athletic program effectiveness using participation, performance, and other relevant data to support continuous improvement.
- Plan and coordinate the time, personnel, materials, and resources necessary to achieve departmental goals.
- Establish and maintain positive communication and collaborative relationships with students, families, staff, coaches, and community members.
- Foster community engagement and support for district athletic programs, including collaboration with athletic booster organizations.
- Represent and communicate the district's mission, vision, and goals for athletics to internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate responsiveness to district and community needs by supporting initiatives that strengthen athletic programs.
- Manage administrative functions and operational details associated with the district's athletic program as assigned by the Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
