JOB SUMMARY

Athletic Coordinator

Responsible for organizing, directing, and supervising athletic classes, leagues, and recreational programs. Coordinates scheduling, marketing, and participant engagement, ensuring safe and enjoyable experiences while fostering community involvement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Program Supervision: Supervise athletic programs, staff, and volunteers ensuring compliance with department policies and safety standards.
  • Program Coordination: Coordinate class schedules, tournaments, and community events, ensuring resources are available and conflicts avoided.
  • Customer and Public Relations: Address inquiries from patrons, parents, and coaches regarding programs and policies professionally.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Create digital and print marketing materials for program awareness; manage social media and departmental outreach.
  • Financial and Cash Handling: Collect and record program fees, prepare deposits, and maintain cash accountability records.
  • Program Evaluation: Assess program success and participation levels to recommend improvements or new offerings.
  • Volunteer Training: Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist with athletic programs and events.
  • Special Event Coordination: Plan and execute community sports tournaments and special events in collaboration with local organizations.
  • Facilities Maintenance: Ensure facilities and equipment are properly maintained for safe public use.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with community groups to promote participation in recreational programs.
  • Staff Coordination: Schedule and direct part-time staff across multiple sports facilities or program sites.

The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team's efforts by completing other related tasks, as may be assigned.

Position Athletic Coordinator Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - The following are the minimum education and experience required for the position. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Education

  • Associates (Related Field); Bachlor's Preferred

Experience

  • 2 years previous relevant work experience is required.

Special Experience

Training Requisites

  • Recreation program management; Public relations and customer service; Conflict resolution and de-escalation training

Certifications

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid and CPR certification within 3 months of hire. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain Clinician's Certifications in National Youth Sports Coaches Association training program.

Licensing

  • Must possess a valid State Driver's License.

Computer; Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint); scanner/copier/printer; multi-line phone; calculator; Financial Management System; recreation management software; scheduling systems; measuring tape; field setup tools; scoreboards; PA systems; recreational/sports equipment (balls, nets, cones, etc.).

WORK ENVIRONMENT or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Combination of office and field environments. Office work includes scheduling, coordination, and administrative functions. Fieldwork involves setup, supervision, and inspection of athletic facilities, events, and recreation areas.
  • Many situations will require working early morning and late evening hours.
  • Hours for this position include 2-3 evenings per week and Saturdays. May require early morning.
  • May frequently be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
