DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the school site principal and Superintendent and in cooperation with the staff of the department, he/she plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the athletic program at the high school level in conformance with the school handbook and the Education Code.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
DUTIES (BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Hire and assists in the selection of the coaching staff.
- Require pre-season and post-season meetings with coaches.
- Assure that coaches and players adhere to the IESA and IHSA site athletic by-laws.
- Verify that all athletes are medically cleared, have insurance, and have signed a Code of Conduct Form.
- Schedules all competitions.
- Responsible for securing officials for all home events and assists in the coordination of transportation for all away events.
- Provide supervision for home competitions.
- Provide one sports banquet per year (Spring). Keep records of all awards/letters issued.
- Verify that all athletes are academically eligible to compete.
- Purchase all equipment and uniforms.
- Provide adequate practice and playing facilities.
- Respond to all parent concerns and calls. Respond to all staff concerns and email messages.
- Be the District Advisor to the Booster Club.
- Be a support network for present and future Cairo youth sports.
- Troubleshoot the day to day operation of a district wide athletic program.
- Responsible for maintaining an inventory of all athletic equipment.
- Ensures that each varsity coach maintains an accurate inventory of equipment and materials and file such inventory at the conclusion of each season.
- Responsible for the development of a schedule of varsity and junior varsity and freshman events and in the absence of the coach prepares a schedule.
- Responsible for the orientation of all coaches regarding site and district policies, procedures, and expectations and ensures that all coaches comply with IESA and IHSA rules and procedures.
- Works closely with the coaches and the school nurse to schedule athletic physicals and processes necessary forms.
- Serves as a liaison between the athletic booster groups, coaches, and site administration.
- Works closely with the staff and site administration to develop and enforce an athletic/academic code of conduct which is consistent with the goals of the staff, administration, and the district. Assist the Principals in developing a quality athletic program.
- Coordinate the scheduling of athletic events in accordance with IESA and IHSA regulations.
- Responsible for assuring that the athletic program meets league and IESA and IHSA regulations.
- Responsible in the requisitioning and issuing of athletic equipment.
- Responsible for the care of athletic facilities.
- Coordinate and budget the transportation for all athletic programs.
- Responsible in ensuring the certification of coaching staff and coaches in accordance with State guidelines.
- Participates in fundraising, letters of recommendation, press-box awards, etc.
- Adhere to the Illinois Education Code Title V and carry out Board Policies and Administrative Procedures.
- Abide by professional ethics standards established by Board Policy.
- Maintain punctuality for all prescribed functions.
- Assume the responsibility for the safety and welfare of students whenever a danger is observed on or about the campus.
- Participate cooperatively in the development of the school athletic budget.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principals/Superintendent.
Qualifications
- Illinois State certification in teaching in appropriate subject area.
- And/or complete a state approved preparation program or hold a valid and comparable out-of-state certificate.
- Meet all coursework and testing requirements and meet all other requirements detailed in Illinois statute and rules.
Salary
Stipend position of $7000 annually.
