Position Summary
The Athletic Director provides visionary leadership for the school's athletic program while supporting the school's Christian mission and values. This individual oversees all aspects of interscholastic athletics, ensuring programs promote spiritual growth, academic excellence, sportsmanship, and athletic development. The Athletic Director serves as a positive Christian role model for students, coaches, and families.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Administration
- Develop and oversee the school's athletic program in alignment with the school's mission and philosophy.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate coaches.
- Create and manage athletic schedules, practices, and competitions.
- Ensure compliance with league, conference, and state athletic association regulations.
- Develop and administer the athletic department budget.
- Maintain athletic facilities and equipment.
- Coordinate transportation for athletic events.
Student Development
- Foster an environment that emphasizes Christian character, integrity, teamwork, and servant leadership.
- Encourage student-athletes to balance academics, athletics, and spiritual growth.
- Promote sportsmanship and biblical principles during all athletic activities.
- Support student-athlete eligibility and academic accountability.
Communication
- Communicate effectively with parents, coaches, faculty, students, and administration.
- Coordinate athletic calendars and event information.
- Resolve concerns and conflicts professionally and biblically.
- Represent the school positively within the community and athletic organizations.
Event Management
- Organize home athletic events.
- Coordinate officials, security, volunteers, concessions, and game-day operations.
- Ensure safety procedures and emergency protocols are followed.
- Oversee athletic awards programs and recognition events.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all athletes meet eligibility requirements.
- Maintain appropriate records, medical forms, and insurance documentation.
- Implement risk management and safety procedures.
- Verify coaches maintain required certifications and background checks.
Spiritual Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Model Christian character in words and actions.
- Support and uphold the school's Statement of Faith and mission.
- Pray with and encourage student-athletes and coaches.
- Integrate biblical principles into athletic leadership and decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in education and/or related field.
- Experience in athletic administration, coaching, or educational leadership.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of athletic rules, regulations, and program management.
- Ability to manage budgets and multiple priorities.
- Active member of a Bible-believing Christian church (preferred, depending on school policy).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a Christian school.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
- Experience with athletic scheduling software.
- Teaching certificate or educational leadership credentials (if applicable).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to attend athletic events, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to walk, stand, lift up to 50 pounds, and supervise outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
