The School District of West Salem is right next door to La Crosse in the beautiful Coulee Region of Western Wisconsin. Our 3 buildings are within walking distance of each other on an approximate 100-acre campus on the edge of town. Students in grades 4-12 are issued MacBooks or iPads as part of its 1:1 digital learning environment. Having a passion for athletics and for providing an exciting, meaningful, and rewarding experience for students is a must!

The district is looking for an Athletic Director for our district to "Serve with passion to ignite creativity, innovation, and excellence."

Applicants should be energetic, creative and innovative and willing to provide their students with a 21st Century experience and beyond. The ideal candidate for the MS/HS Athletic Director will continue the tradition of excellence through hiring and developing coaches, administering the comprehensive athletics program, coordinating the complex logistics of scheduling, and exercising fiscal responsibility of the athletic budget.

Required: Bachelors Degree in Education or Sports Management related field.

Preferred: Administrative licensure or ability to obtain principal licensensure. Previous co-curricular leadership and teaching experience. Familiarity with the WIAA rules, NFHS rules and guidelines and high school athletic programs.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations, organize and maintain numerous details, and work independently.

  • Ability to effectively use multiple technologies for communication, job-embedded learning, data analysis, and work efficiency.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This is a specific set of tasks that are representative of most frequently anticipated responsibilities. These should not be interpreted as the only responsibilities performed. Workloads may necessitate temporarily performing responsibilities typically assigned to others.

  1. Maintain a file of student WIAA physicals, student eligibility status, and disciplinary action taken against students, individual awards, team rosters, team records and team awards.

  2. Record video updates to be posted annually during the registration process to inform athletes and their parents and coaches of changes in the Co-curricular Code of Conduct.

  3. Review and update coaches guidebook for athletic program development and management.

  4. Administer the "Code of Conduct/Student Handbook" as it applies to all athletic participants.

  5. Review and inspect all facilities and equipment used for athletic activities with the goal of "safety first".

  6. Schedule all athletic activities in coordination with conference schedules, WIAA regulations, and other school district events.

  7. Order, inventory, and budget for all athletic activity equipment.

  8. Represent the school district at conference and WIAA meetings.

  9. Prepare and administer the athletic budgets.

  10. Work with and attend meetings of the Booster Club as needed.

  11. Recruit, contract and pay referees officials, linesmen, etc. for events. Recruit, hire and maintain records of event workers duties and payment.

  12. Monitor coach's performance and annually document head coach's performance.

  13. Distribute and follow fee schedule for school district athletics.

  14. Assign the use of the school practice and game facilities as well as manage the school district athletic facilities and record on building calendars.

  15. Assist the building principal in recruitment and selection of coaches and post job vacancy internally and externally. Send notification to Board of Education for approval.

  16. Arrange transportation for all away contests.

  17. Serve as a representative of the School District of West Salem and attend athletic directors regional and state meetings.

  18. Coordinate for participation in sports of parochial and homebound students.

  19. As a representative of the school district, you are expected to deal with the public, students and school employees in a courteous and professional manner.

  20. Be knowledgeable of and carry out the School District of West Salem Board of Education Policies and be responsible that all co-curricular programs are adhering to these policies.

  21. Coordinate end of year athletic awards.

  22. Participation in coaching clinics. Participation in CPR, AED/first aid training.

  23. Ability to follow, building and program policies and procedures.

  24. Lead the athletic program and professional development of the coaches.

  25. The Board reserves authority to the Superintendent to assign additional duties and responsibilities as necessary within the scope of the employment position.

Note: Recent upgrades have been made our track/football field, JV baseball field, softball fields, and tennis courts. Our campus facilities also feature the Panther Den, home to our hockey rink and gymnastics practice space.
