Hiring Department

Student Health- Sports Medicine

Student Health Services provides medical care and supports campus health initiatives. The department delivers outpatient clinical services and coordinates care in collaboration with campus partners and licensed health professionals. Work in the department includes clinical operations, appointment coordination, and health service support.

Job Description

This temporary position will provide professional medical assistance to student-athletes in the prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by planning and implementing care.

  • Applied Knowledge:

  • Possess knowledge of a large range of medical problems.

  • Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required

  • Decision-Making Skills:

  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines

  • Will conduct all interactions with students, student-athletes, staff, faculty, coaches, administrators, other on campus and off campus individuals with dignity, respect.

  • Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families

  • Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.

  • Plan and supervise physical training programs for Intercollegiate Athletics' participants including use of massage, exercise, heat/light rays, hydro-therapy and related therapeutic treatment

  • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, first aid, evaluation, management and rehabilitation

  • Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion

  • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs, customized preventative strategies, and programs to each patient.

  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies

  • Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations

  • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes

  • Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Certification and licensures as required by state laws for an Athletic Trainer in the state of Missouri.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $35.00 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
