Job Title: Communications Assistant

Department: Athletics Staff

Supervisor: Lauren Moore

Starting Rate of Pay: $8.00/hour (unless for internship class credit)

Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

Department Description

The HPU Athletic Communications department is looking for students who are seeking real world experience in the fast-paced environment of college athletics.

Do you want a career in sports media?

Yes? Then you should intern with the HPU Athletic Communications Department to gain hands-on experience in Division I Athletics.

What would I get to do?

  • Day-to-Day Social Media Experience with SkullSparks award-winning accounts, some with over 20k followers. Learn social techniques while getting to showcase your work in front of large audiences.
  • Write for HighPointPanthers.com and receive constructive feedback on how to make writing better and will have pieces to put on resume
  • Opportunity to create content for a DI Athletic Department, including videos and graphics. Will learn how to use Adobe Creative Suite
  • Chance to connect with professional journalists and local news companies
  • Hands-on media relations experience with chance to Interview student-athletes and coaches for stories and website content
  • Will learn fundamentals of sports information including how to input and call statistics at HPU home athletic events and updating website content.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Location/ Hours Required

The candidate will perform most/all job duties in the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center, Steele Center, Millis Center, Witcher Center and Willard Stadium. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants should be willing to work a variety of jobs, have a basic knowledge of social media and be prepared to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.

Desired Skills:

  • Must have a minimum 2.3 overall GPA
  • A willingness to learn new skills
  • Strong writer and/or design skills
  • Understanding of social media platforms
