Senior Atlassian Administrator / Developer (Jira & Jira Service Management)

Overview
We are seeking a Senior Atlassian Administrator / Developer to lead the implementation, administration, and long-term evolution of a newly established Atlassian environment. This is an opportunity to build an enterprise platform from the ground up, helping define how technology teams collaborate, manage work, and deliver services across the organization.
The organization has recently adopted Jira Software and Jira Service Management and is in the early stages of implementation. Rather than stepping into a mature environment, you will play a key role in designing the platform architecture, establishing governance, implementing IT Service Management (ITSM) capabilities, and developing scalable solutions that support future growth.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building platforms, improving business processes through automation, and partnering with technical and business stakeholders to create long-term solutions. You'll serve as the organization's Atlassian subject matter expert, helping shape the roadmap while ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, and aligned with industry best practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation, administration, and ongoing development of Jira Software and Jira Service Management.
- Design and configure projects, workflows, issue types, request types, field configurations, screens, permissions, notification schemes, and security models.
- Build and optimize Jira Service Management portals, queues, SLAs, knowledge bases, and service request workflows.
- Establish platform governance, standards, naming conventions, and administrative best practices.
- Design scalable solutions that support multiple teams while maintaining consistency across the platform.
- Develop workflow automations using Jira Automation, ScriptRunner, Groovy, and other Atlassian development tools.
- Build integrations between Atlassian products and enterprise applications using REST APIs and other integration technologies.
- Evaluate, implement, and manage Atlassian Marketplace applications to extend platform functionality.
- Create dashboards, reports, and metrics that provide meaningful operational insights.
- Partner with Infrastructure, Engineering, Security, Product, and business teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable platform solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Develop documentation, governance standards, and administrator procedures.
- Provide ongoing platform administration, user support, and enhancement recommendations as platform adoption expands.
- Stay current on Atlassian product capabilities and recommend new features that improve productivity and service delivery.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of hands-on experience administering Jira Software.
- Strong experience implementing and administering Jira Service Management (JSM).
- Experience building or significantly redesigning enterprise Atlassian environments.
- Strong understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) principles and best practices.
- Experience designing complex workflows, automation, and platform configurations.
- Experience with Jira Automation.
- Experience with ScriptRunner, Groovy, or similar scripting tools.
- Experience integrating Jira with third-party systems using REST APIs.
- Strong understanding of permission models, security, and governance.
- Experience supporting enterprise users across multiple business functions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering Confluence.
- Experience with Atlassian Cloud.
- Experience implementing Assets (Insight) and CMDB capabilities.
- Experience integrating Atlassian with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab, or other enterprise platforms.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, and DevOps methodologies.
- Atlassian certifications are preferred.
- Experience supporting Enterprise Service Management (ESM) initiatives.
