Position Summary

The Attendance Coach is responsible for improving student attendance by implementing proactive, data-driven strategies that remove barriers, engage families, and promote a culture of daily attendance. This role works closely with school leadership, teachers, families, and community partners to ensure students attend school consistently and are supported holistically.

The Attendance Coach serves as both an advocate and accountability partner, ensuring that attendance is not just monitored but improved through intentional action.

Key Responsibilities

Attendance Monitoring & Data Analysis

  • Monitor daily attendance data and identify patterns of chronic absenteeism and truancy
  • Develop and maintain an attendance tracking system aligned with MTSS frameworks
  • Analyze attendance trends (daily, weekly, monthly) and share actionable insights with school leadership
  • Identify students in Tier 2 and Tier 3 attendance intervention groups
Student & Family Engagement
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with students and families
  • Conduct outreach (calls, texts, home visits, virtual meetings) to address attendance concerns
  • Partner with families to identify root causes of absenteeism and co-create support plans
  • Provide resources and connect families to community-based supports (transportation, health services, housing, etc.)
Intervention & Case Management
  • Develop individualized attendance plans for students with chronic absenteeism
  • Facilitate attendance meetings, conferences, and intervention plans with families and staff
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and teachers to provide wraparound supports
  • Monitor progress and adjust interventions based on student response
Schoolwide Attendance Initiatives
  • Lead and support schoolwide attendance campaigns, incentives, and awareness efforts
  • Promote a positive school culture that reinforces the importance of daily attendance
  • Coordinate events such as attendance celebrations, recognition programs, and family engagement nights
  • Support advisory or SEL initiatives that address attendance-related behaviors
Collaboration & Leadership
  • Participate in MTSS, PBIS, and student support team meetings
  • Collaborate with school leaders to align attendance strategies with school improvement goals
  • Provide staff with strategies to encourage attendance and build student engagement
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, district, and community agencies
Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure accurate documentation of attendance interventions and communications
  • Support adherence to district and state attendance policies and procedures
  • Assist with truancy documentation and reporting as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (Education, Social Work, Counseling, or related field preferred)
  • Experience working in schools, youth services, or community-based organizations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations
  • Ability to analyze data and implement targeted interventions
  • Knowledge of MTSS, PBIS, and trauma-informed practices preferred
