Overview:

Scope of Position

The Public Space Attendant is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s public spaces—including lobbies, restrooms, entrances, and the building perimeter—in a clean and orderly manner. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while delivering proactive, high-quality service. Public Space Attendants have frequent guest interaction and must consistently provide courteous and professional assistance. Typically scheduled in teams of two, close coordination is essential to ensure smooth workflow and an impressive, finished product. Business needs require attendants to clean restrooms during events without closing them to guests. This position reports to the Director of Housekeeping and Housekeeping Manager.

 

Schedule Requirements

The position includes morning and afternoon/evening shifts with regular weekend attendance. Holidays are scheduled as business requires.

Due to the cyclical nature of hospitality, flexibility is required to meet business needs. Participation in “all hands” events may be necessary.

The hotel operates 24/7, including holidays. The company strives to support work-life balance.

 

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Maintain cleanliness of all public areas, including front and back of house spaces on Lobby, Mezzanine, and Plaza Levels.
  • Rotate hourly through public and employee restrooms, cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Routinely clean, vacuum, and organize public areas (including exterior) according to hotel standards.
  • Maintain and clean VIP restrooms, ensuring special amenities are provided as requested by clients.
  • Provide attentive, quality service and support to guests as needed.
  • Remove trash to compactor and baler.
  • Maintain cleanliness of hotel office spaces.
  • Clean and maintain back-of-house areas (e.g., change rooms, stairways, hallways).
  • Support a work environment consistent with the hotel’s Mission and Values.
  • Complete projects as assigned by Housekeeping leadership.
  • Strip guest rooms of linen and trash when necessary.
  • Maintain adequate supplies in housekeeping closets, cages, and service areas.
  • Assist housekeepers with cleaning and turnover of guest rooms.
  • Respond promptly to guest requests for housekeeping supplies.
  • Clean designated areas such as public restrooms, fixtures, vending areas, storage areas, and other public spaces, including handling biohazard clean-up when required.
  • Clean patio/balcony areas by sweeping or hosing floors, wiping furniture and fixtures, removing garbage, and cleaning doors and windows.
  • Monitor and control supplies and amenities to minimize waste.
  • Handle emergency cleaning requests.
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks, including drapery, carpet spotting, wallpaper, and vents.
  • Practice and promote the hotel’s Mission and Values in daily operations.
  • Complete additional duties and projects as assigned by department managers or supervisors.
Qualifications:

Required Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50-pounds
  • Ability to be mobile on feet for entire shift.
  • iPod Touches and/or radios are used throughout the shift.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions such as pulling, pushing, and bending for extended periods of time. Examples: Moving full laundry buggies, bending to clean baseboards
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a group setting.

 

Supportive Functions

  • In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Executive Housekeeper based upon the requirements of the hotel.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with hotel standards.
  • Adhere to hotel rules and regulations for safe and efficient operations.

Qualifications

 

Experience:

  • Hospitality experience preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and backgrounds preferred.

 

Education:

  • High School diploma, general education degree or international equivalent preferred.

 

Language Skills:

  • Fluency of the English language is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to understand and compose instructions, memos, and short correspondence.

    Physical Requirements:

    The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

    • Lifting & Strength: Must have upper body strength to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift. Requires finger, hand, and upper body dexterity to push, pull, and move levers, equipment, and furniture. Must be able to work with arms raised above head for extended periods.
    • Equipment Handling: Ability to maneuver a fully loaded housekeeping cart (up to 50 lbs.) through hallways and into/out of closets during the entire workday.
    • Tools & Chemicals: Regular use of basic commercial cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor buffers, carpet cleaners), cleaning carts, ladders/stepping stools, and exposure to hazardous cleaning chemicals.
    • Physical Activity: Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving throughout the facility.
    • Duration: Must be able to stand and walk for 8 hours or longer per shift.
    • Carrying & Moving: Regularly carrying, lifting, or pulling items weighing up to 50 lbs.
