JOB DUTIES:
Under direct supervision of Attorney Supervisor, prepares and presents cases for Court (i.e., establishment of paternity, establishment of support orders, including medical insurance orders, contempts, sentencings and reviews on child support). Also, prepares and presents cases to the Court on objections to Magistrate's decisions and prepares and presents cases to the Court of Appeals. Prepares legal briefs, pleadings, motions and entries, memorandums and correspondence. Reviews and signs all necessary legal documents. Provides legal advice and answers inquiries pertaining to child support from CSE staff, other DJFS personnel, including CPS personnel and the general public.
Conducts legal research on legal changes for legal implications and makes recommendations for modification. Interprets laws, statutes and/or jurisdictional regulations pertaining to child support. Attends seminars, conferences and meetings to remain current on legislative changes, laws and rules governing child support and in order to maintain active status as attorney in the State of Ohio. Works alone or with other persons in short or long-term team projects to resolve problems or conflicts in any area of operations or to complete assigned projects at the direction of supervisor or Department Head when assigned. Works aggressively to reduce or eliminate safety/risk concerns in current position or work location. Reports safety/risk management issues to immediate supervisor. New and other related duties as assigned. As operational needs arise, may be required to assume additional duties of position within same classification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Admission to the Ohio Bar per Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code and in good standing. Must have knowledge of and/or experience in administrative and quasi-judicial hearings; preparation of standard legal documents; research techniques; social welfare issues; and word processing, spreadsheets, and other routine office software applications (Microsoft Office preferred). Must have ability to participate in court hearings; speak publicly; interpret and/or explain technical or legal issues to others; maintain accurate records; make independent decisions concerning legal matters; and provide legal advice to others.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirements stated above. Military education and experience may be substituted for college and vocational certificate level course work on a case-by-case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations. For consideration please include a military transcript and/or Form DD214 with your application. Conditions and procedures for selection will be consistent with Clermont County Personnel Policy and/or Collective Bargaining Agreements, if applicable. Also, certain classifications, because of the nature of the work, require pre-placement and/or periodic physical examinations which may include drug/alcohol screening tests. Employment in a position with Clermont County Department of Job and Family Services is contingent upon successful completion and favorable adjudication of a criminal background check conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
