Senior Trial Attorney (Contract)
Position Summary
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Trial Attorney to lead complex automotive products liability cases in a fast-paced, trial-forward environment. This is a fully on-site, full-time contract role (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM) ideal for a seasoned litigator who thrives in high-stakes litigation, drives case strategy from inception through verdict, and provides leadership and mentorship to litigation teams.
The role requires strong courtroom presence, strategic case management skills, and the ability to manage multiple complex matters while maintaining high performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage litigation teams handling complex automotive product liability cases
- Serve as first or second chair in jury trials in both state and federal courts
- Develop and execute a case strategy from initial evaluation through trial and resolution
- Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, and manage discovery processes
- Handle mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances
- Collaborate closely with expert witnesses and consultants
- Utilize litigation technology, trial presentation tools, and case management systems
- Draft and argue motions, pleadings, and legal briefs
- Mentor and supervise junior attorneys, associates, and litigation staff
- Ensure compliance with deadlines, court rules, and firm standards
Required Qualifications
JD from an accredited law school
Active California Bar license in good standing
10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney
Minimum 5+ years of complex litigation and trial experience
First or second chair jury trial experience strongly preferred
Strong legal writing, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
Proven leadership and team management experience
Excellent communication and courtroom advocacy skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment
Compensation & Work Structure
- Hourly Rate: $84.13 – $96.15 per hour (based on experience; flexibility in range for highly qualified candidates)
- Billing Requirement: 150–160 billable hours per month
- Work Model: Fully on-site
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM
- Contract Duration: Initial 3+ month engagement (potential for extension based on performance and business needs)
- Employment Type: Contract role (no permanent conversion specified at this time)
