Job Description and Duties
This position is eligible for telework in accordance with CLRC's Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
The Committee on Revision of the Penal Code is a multi-member state body that was formed on January 1, 2020. The Committee studies the Penal Code and recommends statutory reforms to achieve the following objectives:
The Committee's legal staff will provide support for that work by conducting legal research and analysis, participating in the Committee's meetings, and supporting the legislative process when bills are introduced to implement the Committee's recommendations.
This position will be remote work, with occasional travel to in-person meetings in Sacramento or other locations in the state.

Under direction of the Attorney Supervisor, the Attorney III (Criminal Law Team) is primarily responsible for leading the Committee''s legislative program; performing background research and analysis of the law and policies relevant to the new Committee''s studies; independently performing the more complex work and assignments related to a broad range of staff legal work, and in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and other legal authorities.
This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year.
This position may require travel.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for a visa sponsorship or a training plan, now or in the future.

Department Information
The Civil Law Team provides legal research and analysis, conducts policy analysis, coordinates expert input, participates in the legislative process, and provides legal advice and information at public hearings, all in support of the work of the California Law Revision Commission ("Commission"). The Commission is responsible for the study of legal problems, as assigned by the legislature, and the development of statutory reforms to address those problems.
