We are currently seeking a talented and dedicated Attorney with a focus on Municipal Law to join our dynamic legal team. This is a permanent position that provides an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to leverage their legal expertise within the public sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal counsel to various municipal departments, advising on a broad range of municipal law matters, and representing the municipality in legal proceedings. This role requires a deep understanding of municipal contract law, code enforcement, civic law, standard housing law, and public litigation.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal advice and counsel to municipal officials and departments regarding a wide array of municipal law matters.
2. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents on behalf of the municipality.
3. Represent the municipality in court proceedings and before administrative tribunals.
4. Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions on complex municipal law issues.
5. Advise on code enforcement matters and develop strategies to ensure compliance with municipal codes.
6. Handle matters related to standard housing law, including advising on housing policies and regulations.
7. Represent the municipality in public litigation, including civil rights, land use, environmental, and employment cases.
8. Develop and conduct legal training for municipal officials and employees.
9. Work closely with other attorneys, paralegals, and staff in the legal department to ensure the provision of high-quality legal services.
Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Admission to the state bar and in good standing.
3. A minimum of 2 years of experience as an attorney, preferably in municipal law.
4. Demonstrated expertise in municipal contract law, code enforcement, civic law, standard housing law, and public litigation.
5. Excellent legal research and writing skills.
6. Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
7. Ability to handle a high volume of work and manage multiple priorities.
8. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
9. High ethical standards and professional integrity.
10. Commitment to public service and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and rewards of working in the public sector.
