Attorney

Staff Attorney needed at nonprofit civil legal firm with Peekskill location. The Attorney will work on General Practice Matters with an emphasis on matters impacting  the LGBTQIA community.

Duties of the Position: Include intake and individual case work, litigation in state and federal courts, including appellate practice, and education and outreach efforts directed at community members and service providers. The person hired will also be expected to adhere to program and case handling standards, funder requirements, the highest professional standards, and be available as a resource to staff and communities.

Requirements

• Member in good standing of the New York State Bar
• 1 plus years of legal experience, includinglitigation
• Understanding of the communities that you will be serving
• Excellent people skills, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders
• Court appearances
• Demonstrated commitment to serving persons who cannot afford an attorney is a plus
