About the Role

Client is seeking an experienced Audiovisual Field Commissioner to support the testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, documentation, and final turnover of commercial audiovisual systems.

This position serves as the technical link between our project management, engineering, programming, installation, and service teams. The AV Field Commissioner will verify that completed systems meet project drawings, specifications, approved submittals, manufacturer requirements, and Client quality standards before customer turnover.

The ideal candidate has strong commercial AV field experience, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to independently commission audio, video, control, conferencing, paging, and networked AV systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform complete AV system commissioning, functional testing, and quality-control inspections.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, approved submittals, signal-flow diagrams, and equipment schedules.
  • Verify that equipment is properly installed, labeled, terminated, configured, and documented.
  • Test audio, video, control, conferencing, paging, digital signage, and AV-over-IP systems.
  • Configure and verify DSP programming, gain structure, routing, equalization, delay, loudspeaker processing, and microphone performance.
  • Coordinate with programmers to test control-system functionality, user interfaces, presets, automation sequences, and room-combine operation.
  • Verify video resolutions, EDID, HDCP, switching, scaling, signal transport, and display operation.
  • Commission Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, BYOD conferencing systems, cameras, microphones, loudspeakers, and USB peripherals.
  • Verify Dante, AES67, AV-over-IP, and other networked AV devices, including addressing, clocking, subscriptions, multicast operation, and network connectivity.
  • Troubleshoot installation, programming, configuration, network, equipment, and design-related issues.
  • Create clear punch lists and communicate corrective actions to technicians, project managers, engineers, programmers, and field supervisors.
  • Confirm resolution of punch-list items before customer acceptance.
  • Perform sound-pressure-level measurements, system balancing, speech-intelligibility testing, and performance verification when required.
  • Maintain commissioning reports, test results, configuration backups, redlines, photographs, and closeout documentation.
  • Support customer demonstrations, operator training, acceptance testing, and final system turnover.
  • Coordinate with manufacturer technical support when equipment or software issues arise.
  • Provide remote and on-site troubleshooting support for completed projects.
Required Qualifications
  • At least three years of commercial audiovisual installation, service, commissioning, or field-engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of audiovisual signal flow, system grounding, balanced audio, loudspeaker systems, microphones, video distribution, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret AV drawings, riser diagrams, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, specifications, and equipment schedules.
  • Experience commissioning DSP-based audio systems and resolving routing, gain-structure, echo, feedback, noise, and intelligibility issues.
  • Working knowledge of commercial AV networking, including IP addressing, VLANs, PoE, multicast, QoS, IGMP, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex system issues and clearly document findings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project managers, engineers, programmers, electricians, technology contractors, general contractors, consultants, and customer representatives.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel to regional project sites and occasionally work outside normal business hours during system cutovers or critical commissioning periods.
