A growing CPA firm in Bergen County, NJ, is seeking an Audit Supervisor with at least 7 years of public accounting experience specializing in nonprofit organizations. They're looking for a seasoned CPA who can step into complex client situations, take full ownership, and elevate both the team and the practice. About the Role What You'll Work On Lead audit engagements, manage and mentor staff, review work, prepare deliverables, and guide clients through strategic planning. You'll be hands-on with a diverse mix of nonprofit organizations that demand real technical depth, including:
Risk assessment
Preparation of financial statements and disclosures
Uniform Guidance audits
Preparation of Form 990 returns for tax-exempt organizations
This role does not involve:
Public company or SEC work

Key Responsibilities
Supervise staff during fieldwork, review workpapers, and provide constructive guidance and suggestions
Develop testing methodologies to evaluate the adequacy of internal controls
Review audit findings, recommend changes in accounting practices, and improve client efficiencies through corrective action plans
Recommend corrective actions and offer operational improvements
Supervise, mentor, and develop staff and seniors; manage workloads and deadlines effectively
Build and maintain strong client relationships through ongoing communication and best-in-class service
Stay current with changes in laws, accounting guidance, and related compliance matters
Contribute to internal process improvements and best-practice refinement
Required Qualifications
Active CPA license required
Minimum 7 years of progressive public accounting experience
Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting
Strong background in Uniform Guidance audits
Strong background in preparing Form 990 returns for exempt organizations
Demonstrated leadership with a track record of developing staff and managing client engagements
Ability to handle multiple priorities without losing accuracy or momentum
Solid working knowledge of ProSystem Engagement, PPC Smart Tools, ProSystem fx, QuickBooks, and QuickBooks Online is a plus
