About this Job

The Mission of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services is to provide safety services to both the citizens of the state and visitors to the state of Louisiana by upholding and enforcing the laws, administering regulatory programs, managing records, educating the public and managing emergencies, both directly and through interaction with other agencies. The Internal Audit Division provides independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the department's operations. Internal Audit helps the department accomplish mission by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in accounting or auditing; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR

A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR

A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

A bachelor's degree plus a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP) designation; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties

  • Responsible for conducting operational, compliance, and financial audits of all offices within the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services.
  • Conducts audit procedures to assess the effectiveness of controls, accuracy of financial records, and efficiency of operations.
  • Works in various capacities as a lead auditor, support auditor, and trainer.
  • Learns and understands the departments operations, managements objectives, policies, and procedures, and relevant state and federal statutes.
  • Develops audit programs based on an understanding of risks and key control points of the system.
  • Prepares audit reports including summaries, findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Auditor 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

Location: This vacancy is located in the East Baton Rouge Parish.

Compensation:

  • The Auditor 1 (pay grade level AS-614) has a minimum salary of $1,544.00/bi-weekly; $3,345.00/monthly.
  • The Auditor 2 (pay grade level AS-615) has a minimum salary of $1,652.00/bi-weekly; $3,579.00/monthly.
  • The Auditor 3 (pay grade level AS-617) has a minimum salary of $1,892.00/bi-weekly; $4,099.00/monthly.
