In the Civil Division, approximately 80 attorneys provide legal support to the executive branch agencies in the form of general counsel advice, administrative hearing prosecutions, board representation, and all stages of civil litigation.

Summary Statement
The Civil Division Defensive Litigation Unit seeks a Deputy Attorney General to serve as an Assistant Unit Head in the New Castle County office.
The Deputy Attorneys General in the Defensive Litigation Unit represent the State, its agencies, officials, and employees in all civil litigation in a wide variety of proceedings in federal and state court, including civil rights, employment, social services, law enforcement, corrections, and other litigated matters arising out of State operations and legislation.
Cases frequently present questions of administrative law, federal and state constitutional law, and statutory interpretation.

Essential Functions
As Assistant Unit Head, this individual will report to the Unit Head and assist in all aspects of managing the Unit while carrying a litigation caseload. The Assistant Unit Head must have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, and clients, and must have the ability and determination to learn new areas of the law in order to guide and support the Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit.
