About the Role:
Atlas Medical Consultants in Bakersfield, CA is looking for a detail-oriented Authorization Specialist to join our growing team. In this critical role, you'll be the driving force behind ensuring patients receive timely access to the care they need by navigating the insurance authorization process with precision and efficiency. Responsibilities:

• Initiate and manage prior authorization requests for medical procedures, treatments, and medications
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to scheduled services
• Communicate with insurance carriers, physicians, and clinical staff to obtain necessary approvals
• Track and follow up on pending authorizations to ensure timely resolution
• Review and interpret payer-specific authorization requirements and medical necessity guidelines
• Document all authorization activities accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system
• Appeal denied authorizations and escalate complex cases as needed

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of experience in prior authorization, medical billing, or healthcare administration
• Strong knowledge of insurance verification, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology
• Experience working with EHR/EMR systems and payer portals
• Familiarity with commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid authorization processes
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
• High school diploma or equivalent required; medical billing/coding certification a plus
