Authorization Specialist & Scheduler  - Denver, CO

Compensation: $28 Hourly 

Schedule: 3 days a week (Monday - Friday)

Project-based with potential for full-time

Overview

Nexus HR is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Authorization Specialist & Scheduler to support surgical coordination and insurance authorization functions within a fast-paced ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery practice.

About the Job

The Authorization Specialist & Scheduler role is critical in driving operational efficiency, ensuring seamless patient experiences, and optimizing revenue cycle performance through accurate scheduling and timely authorizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Surgical Scheduling & Coordination

  • Schedule surgical and in-office procedures efficiently, maximizing block time utilization.

  • Coordinate pre- and post-operative appointments and prepare pre-op packets.

  • Communicate procedures, expectations, and financial responsibilities to patients.

  • Ensure timely follow-up on scheduling requests and patient outreach.

  • Act as liaison between patients, providers, and clinical teams.

  • Collect payments for cosmetic procedures per policy.

Insurance Authorization & Patient Access

  • Manage insurance verification and prior authorizations end-to-end.

  • Submit accurate documentation and ensure medical necessity compliance.

  • Track, follow up, and resolve pending, denied, or appealed authorizations.

  • Support patient intake, benefits review, and financial guidance.

Administrative & Operational Excellence

  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation and reports.

  • Complete tasks within 24-hour turnaround standards.

  • Monitor open orders and optimize workflow efficiency.

  • Collaborate on process improvements and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years in surgery scheduling and/or medical authorization.

  • Experience in ENT, facial plastics, or specialty care preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of insurance workflows and EMR systems.

  • Highly organized with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
