QUALIFICATIONS:
1.
Graduate
of
Technical
Institute
with
3
years
experience
or
5
years
of
experience
in
the
automotive
maintenance
industry.
2.
ASE
certification
preferred.
3.
OSHA
30
General
Industry
Certified
(or
eligible
within
ninety
days
of
first
date
of
employment)
4.
Valid
NJ
Commercial
Drivers
License
Class
"B".
5.
Familiarity
with
new
vehicle
electronic
systems.
6.
Such
alternatives
to
the
above
qualifications
as
the
board
may
find
appropriate
and
acceptable.
7.
Ability
to
pass
the
required
Criminal
History
Review
and
the
Sexual
Misconduct/Child
Abuse
Disclosure.
GENERAL
DESCRIPTION:
Ensures
the
safety
and
NJMVC
compliance
of
the
district's
school
bus
and
maintenance
vehicles,
performing
necessary
repairs
as
required.
Perform
the
maintenance
and
repair
of
district
heavy
equipment
and
small
engines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
MAY
INCLUDE,
BUT
ARE
NOT
LIMITED
TO:
1.
Perform
repair
work
on
all
systems
and
sub-systems
including
electrical,
hydraulic,
diesel
and
gasoline
engines,
hydraulic
and
air
brake
systems,
differentials
and
transmissions,
air
conditioning
and
computerized
engine
controls.
2.
Diagnose
and
determine
reasons
for
equipment
failures
and
determine
appropriate
measures
to
correct
these
conditions.
3.
Road
test
vehicles
to
determine
operational
defects
and
effectiveness
of
repairs.
4.
Perform
complex
work
projects
involving
the
repair
and
overhaul
of
mechanical
equipment..

Understand
and
apply
information
contained
in
technical
manuals,
bulletins,
service
directives
and
other
publications
applicable
to
the
repair,
servicing
and
maintenance
of
mechanical
equipment.
6.
Work
both
independently,
and
in
a
team
environment
to
complete
goals.
7.
Ensure
proper
safety
procedures
are
followed
and
reasonable
standards
of
workmanship
are
maintained
to
achieve
safe
and
serviceable
equipment.
8.
Maintain
a
clean
and
organized
work
area.
9.
As
required,
be
on
24-hour
call,
and
work
extra
hours
during
emergencies,
including
but
not
limited
to:
inclement
weather,
snowstorms,
flooding,
and
natural
disasters.
10.
As
required,
work
with
other
district
personnel
in
the
clearing
and
removal
of
snow
and/or
response
to
other
emergent
conditions
or
situations.
11.
Perform
such
other
Mechanic-Fleet/Bus
duties
as
may
be
assigned.
