I. JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Auto Technician conducts skilled auto mechanic work including all preventive maintenance of gas, diesel and heavy equipment. Employee diagnoses and/or performs necessary scheduled preventive maintenance on all automobiles, trucks, and all types of City vehicles, including diesel and/or gasoline powered on and off-road equipment with little to no assistance. Employee will also work on medium-to-heavy-duty trucks under the direct supervision of the Auto Mechanic II. Employee is responsible for maintaining proper documentation of work completed, the maintenance and safeguard of all tools and equipment, maintenance of a safe and clean working area and utilization of proper maintenance and repair procedures. Employee frequently uses independent, mature judgment when dealing with repairs, keeping safety as a priority. Employee must be able to work well under stress while completing multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Employee has daily contact with other departments. This is a technical/mechanical position and the employee has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalentMinimum 1-2 years of post-specialized training from a community college, technical or vocational institute in automotive technology/mechanics preferred ? Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is preferredCommunity college, technical or vocational education may be waived or substituted with 2 years of proven work experience as an auto mechanic.III. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.Applicant must take and pass a drug, physical, and pre-placement screenings administered by the City of Mission doctor at the City's expense.Applicant must have a neat and professional appearance.Applicant must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the department of Public Safety.Applicant must provide their own tools necessary to perform the daily preventive maintenance duties and responsibilities.
