AutoCAD Drafter

Our client is a Long Island architectural stone company working at the luxury end of the market. They fabricate and install cut-to-size natural stone — roughly 80% of it luxury retail, the balance high-end commercial and residential work. Projects run nationwide and the standard is exacting: brand standards, landlord and mall coordination, compressed schedules and off-hours work. Everything is produced in their own shop and installed by their own teams, which means the technical problems land in-house rather than getting passed to somebody else.

The role

This is a shop drawing role, not a design role. You produce fabrication-ready packages that the shop cuts from. You would join two full-time drafters and a flex resource who comes in for extra hands.

What you will do

• Produce shop drawings and fabrication-ready packages for cut-to-size natural stone.
• Take field dimensions in whatever form they arrive — a marked-up plan, a field sketch, a set of measurements — and turn them into something the shop can cut from.
• Work with the Project Managers through the submittal and approval cycle, and revise as approvals come back.
• Coordinate with the shop on constructability, tolerances and sequencing.

What we are looking for

• Shop drawing experience out of stone, millwork or architectural metal. This is the requirement that matters most.
• Strong, working AutoCAD.
• Comfort turning imperfect field information into fabrication-ready drawings.
• A general architectural drafter who has only worked on the design side is not a fit for this one.

Hours and compensation

$80,000 – $100,000 a year, which is $38.50 – $48.00 per hour at a standard 40-hour week. The role is hourly and non-exempt, so any overtime is paid on top of that figure rather than being built into it.

On overtime, straight from our client: it is not a regular thing when the workload is steady, but it is real when the shop is stretched. We are telling you that plainly rather than selling it as an earnings upside.
