Job Title: Automated Test Engineer

Job Description

The Automated Test Engineer will lead the development and execution of automated testing for robotic platforms, embedded compute devices, camera systems, and supporting software, including AWS cloud applications. This role focuses on building and maintaining robust automation frameworks to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability across the full system stack. In addition to automation, the engineer will perform hands-on manual validation in a lab environment when needed, contributing to both automation-first testing and detailed manual verification.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks for robotic subsystems, supporting applications, and cloud-based services.
  • Execute regression, validation, and performance testing to ensure release readiness and system reliability.
  • Operate and validate hardware and software in a lab environment, reproducing, isolating, and debugging issues as needed.
  • Write, refine, and enhance test plans, test procedures, and regression suites to keep pace with new features and system changes.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous validation and rapid feedback on code changes.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and integration teams to investigate, debug, and resolve complex issues across the stack.
  • Document test results clearly, author detailed defect reports, and track issues through to resolution using defect tracking tools and processes.
  • Contribute to test process improvements and help establish best practices for automated validation and regression testing.
  • Execute test plans, monitor test execution, and report on pass/fail status and overall test coverage.
  • Automate tests where needed to improve efficiency, repeatability, and coverage, while supporting manual validation when appropriate.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in automated testing of hardware, software, or cloud-based systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for developing and maintaining automated test scripts.
  • Familiarity with shell scripting languages such as Bash or similar for automation and tooling.
  • Hands-on experience working in Linux-based environments, including test execution and system debugging.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous validation.
  • Ability to write and maintain automated test cases using frameworks such as pytest or unittest.
  • Practical experience with software testing, test equipment, and test engineering practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary hardware, software, and integration teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with regression testing, defect tracking, and validation methodologies.
  • Exposure to AWS or other cloud systems and cloud-based applications is a plus.
  • Experience building or assembling computers and working with embedded or lab hardware.
  • Background in writing custom scripts to automate tests, tools, or workflows.
  • Hands-on experience in lab environments, including the use of test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ability to automate tests when and where needed to enhance coverage and efficiency.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced R&D environments with evolving requirements and priorities.
  • Experience with LabVIEW or similar tools is beneficial.
  • Ability to support both automation-first testing strategies and detailed manual validation when required.
