Job Description

The Automation & Controls Engineer II will play a key role in developing and optimizing manufacturing and assembly processes through the application of automation, controls engineering, and continuous improvement methodologies. This position partners with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production solutions.

Description

  • Collaborate with cross-functional product development and manufacturing teams to support new product introductions and process improvements.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews to ensure manufacturability and operational efficiency.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principles and Lean methodologies to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Design, develop, and implement automated equipment and production systems to support business objectives.
  • Create electrical schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and related technical documentation.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and other electromechanical control systems.
  • Support equipment upgrades, modifications, and automation initiatives that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Identify capital equipment needs, evaluate suppliers, support vendor selection, and assist with capital project execution.
  • Develop standardized work instructions, operating procedures, and training documentation.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and process-related issues while supporting maintenance and operational teams.
  • Establish and maintain production standards and best practices.
  • Drive risk mitigation initiatives aligned with safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Promote and support compliance with site safety standards and operational procedures.
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provide technical support to production teams and operators as needed.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience programming and supporting PLCs, HMIs, and industrial robotics.
  • Knowledge of sensors, instrumentation, and measurement technologies.
  • Proficiency with CAD software.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
