Automation and Controls Technician

Overview

The Automation/Controls Technician supports automated equipment across the food manufacturing plant, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role focuses on troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving PLC‑based systems, instrumentation, and electrical controls to keep production running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and industrial networks.
• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical and control systems.
• Make basic PLC program edits and support equipment upgrades.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new automated equipment.
• Maintain accurate documentation and follow GMP, food safety, and safety standards.
• Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2–3+ years of automation or electrical maintenance experience (food or manufacturing preferred).
• Working knowledge of PLC troubleshooting (Allen‑Bradley preferred).
• Experience with industrial electrical systems up to 480V.
• Familiarity with instrumentation and basic SCADA systems.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.
