The Automation Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, testing, development, and maintenance of enterprise-grade automation solutions supporting API and UI testing. This individual will build scalable automation frameworks, leverage AI-assisted engineering practices, and integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines to enhance product quality, reliability, and delivery speed.

The role requires strong collaboration across engineering teams and adherence to U.S. Bank development, quality, and security standards to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test solutions across API (REST/GraphQL) and UI applications
  • Build and enhance scalable, reusable automation frameworks optimized for performance and parallel execution
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools (e.g., Playwright MCP) to accelerate test development, refactoring, debugging, and defect triage
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions/GHCP) to enable continuous testing and quality gates
  • Analyze test failures, identify root causes, and improve test stability and reliability
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to improve product testability and drive quality engineering practices
  • Track, analyze, and report quality metrics such as automation coverage, test stability, and defect leakage
  • Manage and scale test execution environments using Selenium Grid and distributed systems
  • Ensure automation solutions comply with enterprise standards for security, performance, and maintainability
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by adopting emerging tools, technologies, and automation strategies

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience with programming, automation, or software development processes

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Hands-on experience with modern test automation frameworks such as Playwright and Selenium
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to enhance automation development and debugging
  • Strong expertise in API (REST/GraphQL) and UI/web automation testing
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript or similar programming languages
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of automation best practices including parallel execution, maintainability, and flaky test mitigation
  • Experience managing distributed test environments (e.g., Selenium Grid) and test data strategies
  • Familiarity with test management and reporting tools such as Practitest
  • Experience working in Agile/DevOps environments with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership through mentorship, code reviews, and best practice adoption

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $119,765.00 - $140,900.00
