Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Automation Technician to support manufacturing equipment, automation systems, and plant operations. This position is responsible for troubleshooting equipment, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, installing and commissioning new equipment, supporting automation projects, and identifying opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety, and efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, automation experience, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with production and engineering teams.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Identify, troubleshoot, and correct malfunctions with manufacturing and plant equipment.
- Monitor equipment operation and performance and make adjustments as needed.
- Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and automation-related issues.
- Communicate equipment status and maintenance concerns to supervisors and appropriate personnel.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, work requests, and other documentation.
- Assist with maintaining facility systems, including phone systems, network/computer cabling, and related equipment.
- Provide on-call technical support as needed.
Equipment Installation & Automation Projects
- Install, set up, and assist with commissioning new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
- Develop work instructions for new equipment and production processes.
- Train production personnel on the proper operation and use of new equipment and systems.
- Work with engineering and technical teams to develop, test, and validate manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Work with outside suppliers and vendors to obtain parts, equipment, and services.
- Request and review vendor quotes and assist with purchasing equipment and maintenance parts.
- Design and build equipment and modifications in collaboration with the engineering team.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, equipment performance, productivity, quality, and waste reduction.
- Create drawings and equipment layouts using AutoCAD.
- Develop and prioritize improvement projects based on cost, production needs, and potential impact.
- Modify equipment and automation programs to improve production performance.
- Support projects designed to improve workplace safety and working conditions.
- Assist with implementing new technologies, processes, and equipment throughout the facility.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in industrial automation, manufacturing equipment, controls, or plant engineering.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions.
- Experience with automated manufacturing equipment and systems.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation, equipment manuals, and drawings.
- Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
- Ability to make equipment and/or program modifications.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
