Automation Engineer II

The Automation Engineer II will report to the Automation Engineering Manager and support the development, testing, deployment, and lifecycle maintenance of computerized control systems for KrosFlo large-scale tangential flow filtration products. This role combines hands-on controls engineering, structured change management, and cross-functional execution to deliver reliable automation solutions in a regulated manufacturing environment. The engineer will partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, Service, and customers.

Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC, HMI, industrial computer, and SCADA applications used in automated process equipment.
• Program and support Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and AutomationDirect PLC platforms.
• Develop and maintain HMI and SCADA applications using Wonderware System Platform. 
• iFix and AutomationDirect C-more development a plus.
• Troubleshoot application scripts, SQL queries, system communications, and control-system interfaces.
• Configure and support industrial networks, including subnets, Network Address Translation, VLANs, and system connectivity.
• Integrate and troubleshoot OPC UA/DA, Modbus TCP/RTU, PROFINET, EtherCAT, and DeltaV connectivity.
• Troubleshoot electrical controls and instrumentation, including control loops, sinking and sourcing signals, and current- versus voltage-based devices.
• Apply software version control, documentation control, and formal change-management practices to released code and system configurations.
• Participate in design reviews, risk reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and deployment of custom automated skids.
• Write and execute clear test scripts and protocols for software FAT, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and system changes.
• Maintain automation standards, reusable templates, test practices, and supporting documentation through controlled change and continuous improvement.
• Provide automation expertise to internal teams, customers, and field personnel during design, build, deployment, and troubleshooting.
• Develop and deliver basic automation training for Manufacturing Associates, Field Service Technicians, and other internal users.
• Define contractor scope, review technical deliverables, track actions, and ensure work meets project, quality, and schedule requirements.
• Promote Repligen’s EHS culture by following safe work practices, identifying hazards or near misses, and supporting corrective actions.

  Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred. Relevant process-control, industrial-automation, or data-acquisition experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 5+ years of experience in automation, controls, software, or industrial systems engineering.
• Hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems and HMI/SCADA applications.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley preferred. 
• Experience with Siemens/DeltaV a plus.

  • Working knowledge of industrial control-system integration, instrumentation, electrical controls, networks, and communication protocols.

  • Ability to read and work from electrical schematics, control narratives, P&IDs, I/O lists, user requirements, and technical specifications.

  • Experience developing and executing structured functional specifications, software design specifications, test protocols, documenting results, and resolving identified issues.

  • Working knowledge of software version control, configuration management, and engineering change-control practices.

  • Strong technical writing skills with demonstrated attention to Good Documentation Practices.

  • Experience in cGMP, computer system validation, and GAMP 5 environments preferred.

  • Programming or scripting experience with Python, VBScript, C/C++, and/or SQL preferred.

  • Ability to manage priorities, contractor deliverables, and technical actions with ownership and follow-through.

  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills in a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, PPE requirements, safe work practices, and leading by example in alignment with Repligen R-Values.

The estimated salary range for this role, based in the United States of America is $100,000-$145,000. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to an individual's qualifications, location, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, employees are eligible to participate in one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
