Position SummaryThe Automation Engineer designs, develops, implements, and maintains automated control systems to improve efficiency, safety, quality, and reliability of manufacturing or process operations. This role works closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize automated systems and support continuous improvement initiatives.Job ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manager – Concentrator or Pellet Plant, the Automation Engineer will be responsible for the following:Design, program, test, and troubleshoot automation and control systemsDevelop and maintain PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA applicationsSupport commissioning, startup, and optimization of automated equipment and processesDiagnose and resolve control system failures to minimize downtimeCollaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance and reliabilityDevelop and maintain control system documentation, standards, and best practicesImplement process improvements using automation and data-driven solutionsEnsure systems comply with safety, quality, and regulatory requirementsTrain operations and maintenance personnel on automated systemsSupport cybersecurity and backup strategies for control systemsSkills and Qualifications3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering (adjustable by level)Hands‑on experience with PLC/DCS platforms (Honeywell, Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Mitsubishi, etc.)Experience with HMI/SCADA systemsKnowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and control systemsEducationBachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Controls, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field) preferred, or technical degree with relevant work experiencePhysical RequirementsThis position is a mixture of field work and office duties. Field work will be conducted daily throughout the year so exposure to the elements (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc.) is to be expected. The office duties will require work in front of a laptop, desk, and phone.
