Automation Installation Lead, Industrial Robotics

Step onto a customer site and you’re the conductor of a multi‑disciplinary orchestra—contractors, commissioning techs, design engineers, project managers, and test teams—bringing a Symbotic automation system to life. In this highly visible role, you’ll coordinate across departments, including executive leadership, to deliver installations that are on time, on budget, and handed to operations free of defects through commissioning and testing.

About the Team

You’ll join the Site Installation team within our Implementation organization. This group ensures Symbotic systems are installed exactly as designed, to a high standard of quality, on schedule and under budget—partnering closely with the Symbotic PM and the commissioning team.

A Day in the Life

Your morning starts by updating the Golden Prerequisite (GPR) tool to capture overnight progress and confirm commissioning readiness. You scan the RFI queue, respond or escalate, and keep to service-level expectations. Before lunch, you lead the adapter cell project kickoff with contractors, clarifying scope, engineering bulletins, and the bulletin matrix—everyone leaves aligned and accountable.

In the afternoon, you walk the floor to validate workmanship and quality against the 650/630 checklist for sign-off. You reconcile any missing materials, record them in the missing material matrix, and log root causes. If an FCN surfaces, you assess its validity, resources, and cost impact, then drive a sane path forward. As mechanical and electrical installation wraps, you roll up your sleeves to support the commissioning team—hands-on when needed—to ensure each cell transitions smoothly into testing. By day’s end, you’re completing reliability and performance checklists so the system advances confidently toward handover.

What You’ll Tackle

  • Own site RFIs: receive, escalate, and resolve within defined SLAs.
  • Maintain daily installation status and commissioning readiness in the Golden Prerequisite (GPR) tool.
  • Translate engineering bulletins into clear scope; manage the bulletin matrix and verify completion.
  • Lead adapter cell scope kickoff and drive accountability across vendors and trades.
  • Validate contractor deliverables via 650/630 checklist sign-offs.
  • Administer the missing material matrix, ensuring accurate records and root-cause tracking.
  • Support FCN validation, including scope assessment, resourcing, and cost implications.
  • After mechanical/electrical completion, assist commissioning with practical trade support for each cell.
  • Execute reliability and performance checklists to confirm system functionality through commissioning.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or related field.
  • 3+ years of trade experience in electrical and automation installation.
  • Background supervising and guiding contractor/trade teams.
  • Hands-on exposure to industrial/robotic automation and ASRS initiatives.
  • Strength in negotiation, stakeholder management, and balancing competing priorities.
  • Data-driven mindset; use metrics and analysis to improve processes.
  • Team-level technical leadership to navigate requirements, design, and process challenges.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80%.

Work Environment & Travel

  • Hybrid, travel-centric role; proximity to a major airport is preferred.
  • Travel up to 80% to client and customer sites; valid driver’s license required with ability to drive and/or fly.
  • Main office: Wilmington, MA. Expect extended assignments at customer installation locations where equipment is staged for commissioning.
