Our client is seeking a talented Automation Services Engineer to join a growing team focused on building the automation, tooling, and platform services that empower engineering organizations to move faster, operate more efficiently, and deliver reliable outcomes.
Salary range: $115-$120k; salary may be negotiable based on education, experience, geographic location and other factors.
This team functions as a platform engineering and enablement organization, creating the infrastructure automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, validation systems, and shared services that other engineering teams depend on every day.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on infrastructure engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, connecting technologies, and turning manual processes into scalable, automated solutions. You thrive across multiple disciplines-Linux, automation, networking, virtualization, and systems integration-and enjoy building tools that make other engineers more productive.
What You''ll Do
Platform Engineering & Automation
Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure automation frameworks using Ansible and related technologies.
Build scalable, repeatable deployment workflows using infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practices.
Automate system provisioning, configuration, patching, validation, and lifecycle management activities.
Develop and enhance internal platform services that support engineering teams across the organization.
Drive automation-first approaches that reduce manual effort and improve operational consistency.
CI/CD & Validation Engineering
Design and maintain GitLab-based CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure testing, validation, and deployment.
Build automated validation frameworks that continuously verify system health, configuration compliance, and operational readiness.
Create nightly and continuous validation processes to detect configuration drift and infrastructure issues before they impact production.
Improve deployment quality through automated testing and repeatable delivery workflows.
Systems Integration & Infrastructure Services
Integrate open-source technologies and infrastructure tools into cohesive, scalable platform solutions.
Build and maintain standardized operating system images using tools such as Packer and related image-building technologies.
Support engineering teams by delivering reliable self-service automation and platform capabilities.
Contribute to emerging initiatives involving locally hosted AI platforms and internal tooling.
Troubleshooting & Reliability
Troubleshoot and resolve issues across Linux systems, networking, virtualization, storage, and application services.
Partner with engineering teams to improve platform reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.
Participate in code reviews and collaborate within Git-based development workflows and engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
Core Technical Expertise
Strong Linux systems administration experience supporting production environments.
Hands-on experience with configuration management and automation technologies such as:
Ansible (strongly preferred)
Puppet
Chef
Salt
Experience designing and implementing infrastructure-as-code and automation-first solutions.
Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitLab.
Proficiency with Git-based workflows, including Branching strategies, merge requests, and code reviews.
Problem Solving & Systems Thinking
Ability to troubleshoot issues across multiple infrastructure layers, including operating systems, networking, services, and applications.
Proven track record of automating manual operational processes and creating repeatable workflows.
Comfortable working across a broad technical stack rather than within a narrow specialty.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a systems-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or automation-focused teams.
Background supporting managed services providers (MSPs), hosting providers, or large-scale infrastructure environments.
Experience building tools and services that support internal engineering organizations.
Technical Experience With
Packer or similar image-building platforms.
Virtualization technologies such as Proxmox, VMware, KVM, or equivalent solutions.
Open-source infrastructure ecosystems and tooling.
Networking fundamentals, including routing, firewalls, connectivity troubleshooting, and infrastructure integration.
Multi-environment configuration management and inventory management practices.
Automated validation and compliance pipelines.
